Gaining after a year

Recommended Posts

I'm down 87 lbs since surgery last year but gained 7lbs the last two weeks. But I know why: I'm eating too many Snacks and not drinking Water. The mental stuff that made us fat before is still there.

Im struggling too but I know what I need to do: destress and stick to the program. A support group isn't something I've done before but may now. I just need the reset button and to talk to people to understand.

Good for you for noticing this trend quickly and working to get yourself back on track!

You can get back on track. I think most of us will have to be vigilant in our eating habits for the rest of our lives. Maybe you can come up with some healthy snack ideas. Wishing you the best.

Sure, you can do it.

As you have already done, you have to say, "Stop!"

Then reset.

And get in the groove.

I look forward to hearing about your progress here. I hope you post about it on this thread.

hey dude

nice to see your handsome face and smile again :)

glad you are coming back to be with us :)

"hanging" around this board for support is great

asking questions, reading answers helps

coming to the board helps keep me honest

reminding me of what to do to stay on track

for the rest of my life :)

knowing your problem is half the battle

it can be hard to get all your Water in

gotta force yourself!!

as far as those nasty Snacks.......

knock it off!!!

87 lbs loss is great :)

were you at goal???

sorry about the regain :(

unfortunately regains do happen to many of us

after all is said and done

7 lbs is not THAT bad

you are nipping it in the bud

you did catch yourself early :)

i see B) you are very determined/anxious to get back on track

you are once again on the road to a healthier, happier, longer life :)

as far as drinking............

i'm holding a glass of Water up to your new found success :)

good luck :)

@@KCSG

nothing wrong with being a little paranoid about regaining

i think many people are worried about regaining (me)

reminding ourselves we never want to weigh what we used to IMO keeps me/us on program

i know you will follow the rules again

and do great :)

good luck :)

At only 48 days post-op, I sincerely wish people who have grabbed the brass ring (reached goal) would be more transparent (and more specific) about the challenges and slippery slopes of "real life" (Year 2, Year 3).

Having lost and gained weight more times than I could accurately count (at least 40 times), I imagine that this time, with WLS, I'll have:

Year 1 - the year of losing weight

Year 2 - the year of maintaining weight los

Year 3 - the year of boring real life.

I think Year 1 will be by far the easiest one.

VSGAnna...The slippery slope are a few things:

1. Getting used to sleeve: once you love it, you also know what it can take: including eating bad foods you didn't touch post-op.

2. You sample foods that you shouldn't eat, don't gain wait so you eat more.

Just a few...

My biggest fear is that I will regain after losing with the sleeve. I'm not sleeved yet but I'm hoping that fear stays with me and keeps me from letting it happen.

I'm feeling pretty frustrated as I've had a few major life events derail my progress around the 1 year mark. Didn't help the the holidays seemed to pop up and it was one party after another. Before I knew it I had regained about 20lbs. Time to hit the restart and get myself back on track. Any encouraging ideas or thoughts on how or where to start are greatly appreciated? I know I need to get my excercise but I'm considering a restart of the post op program? Anyone ever try this?

@@thesuse2000

good/nice words you said back in October

unfortunately @@KCSG hasn't post since october 14 :(

the topic will always be relevent

this topic is frequently/sometimes on people minds (me)

newbies esp. and others shouldn't think of the future in that way

that they might not be able to maintain their weight loss

as long as you continue to follow the rules we've learned with the sleeve - you should maintain

"it" is/can be harder keep the weight off maintenance :(

most/all of us didn't have toooo much trouble taking the weight off

its keeping the weight off!!

the sleeve is still "hanging" around to assist you

but YOU have to work hard too

at some point you might find you are able to eat more

the expression here is "just because you can, doesn't mean you should"

whatever you did pre-op, then post op you must continue for the rest of your health

@theuse2000

87 lbs down

great

keep up the good work

kathy

congrats

to everyone else/me too :)

keep up the great job

i know WE can

regained 20lbs. Time to hit the restart and get myself restart of the post op program?

@@HouseVT

you've identified that you have a problem

thats 1/2 the battle

so you are 1/2 way their!!!!

lots of people have hit that "restart" button with Protein shake etc.

its a good idea :)

giving you that "push"

losing a little more weight in a quicker time will make you feel better

but shortly, you have to go back to "real" life

follow all those Water rules you say you might be having trouble dealing with

drink at least 64 oz of Water a day

do not drink while you are eating

don't drink for about 30 minutes before you eat

wait 45-60 minutes after you eat before you drink again

a few other things you "might" not remember

eat Protein first - very important

watch your carb intake

always chew food slowly and carefully

eat off a small plate

eat very slowly

measure your food

try and keep track of allll our your food (ie use MFP)

its amazing how calories add up :(

before you know it you ate a "zillion" calories :D

other things too, all i can think of this second

it can be hard

but you MUST follow ALL these rules for the rest of your life to maintain your weight

you lost a lot of weight before :)

you cAN do it again

i know you will be yet another success story :)

good luck :)

The key is to not spiral out of control. I still struggle this time of the year. It's about going back to getting Protein, keeping carbs low and exercising. We get out of control when we return to bad habits.

Just don't be too hard on yourself. You'll fail at times but don't let it define you. Get back on track!!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
