Im 6 weeks post op & feeling great..BUT...I have been recently getting really bad cramps in my calves. I'm drinking enough & just started to take potassium to see if that helps. Did anyone else experience this?

It happens all the time...while walking, laying in bed, etc.

It's really starting to get annoying. I just hope I'm not lacking something.

Fortify your Water intake with electrolytes, and you're right on target with the potassium. Soak in a hot bath with Epsom salts, and that will also help pull some of the lactic acid from your muscles.

Should I be worried.....I just experienced a leg cramp in my calves and right away was thinking blood clot! I went on a 8 hour car drive but always got up and walked around to avoid any kinda of blood clot. i'm drinking enough fluids but was worried when I felt this cramp in my right led this morning. Hopefully someone can please help me what should I do?

Thanks,

OMG, I had to verify I hadn't typed this. I too was experiencing bad leg cramps. I upped my Water intake and increased B12 and started eating bananas. We will see what happens. Keep us abreast of updates.

I'm glad to see this post came up when I searched leg cramps - no sense me starting a new one. Mine were awful last night. Good information above. I'm just under four weeks post-op and know I need to up my Water.

I was having leg cramps pre-surgery. I haven't had them since. I was hoping they were gone for good. It's nothing for me to be up walking around the yard at 3:00am to work out cramps.

Vitamin D deficiency also causes leg cramps.

This is definitely true, I was getting terrible leg cramps all the time, then I started taking a vitamin D supplement, and they have improved so much. I still get them from time to time but no where near as frequent as I used to

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
