Checking in: 1 week post op on Monday Aug 25

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

First off, thank you to all the people who shared their stories on this forum. Your information, personal stories, before/after pictures are what truly gave me the courage to have this surgery.

I entered the hospital on Monday Aug 18 weighing in at 398.2 pounds. I felt gross and exhausted. Surgery was scheduled for 11:30am but didn't get started until 1:10pm. By 2pm I was in recovery, whimpering in pain (I'm a bit of a wuss). I had some touch and go blood pressure moments but otherwise all was well.

I was released on Wednesday and have been home ever since. As of today, I feel awesome with tons of energy. I have also lost 20 pounds! (In a week!!! unheard of!!!!)

Anyway, Thanks again!

(Sorry, I was never a writer and don't do well telling stories)

How long were you in pain for??

Probably 20-30 minutes. It was right when I woke up. My blood pressure was spiking and dropping so they couldn't give me any medicine right away. Every single person in the hospital was surprised that I was in that much pain so I doubt it's normal.

Congratulations on starting your journey. As long as you follow the plan provided by your surgeon and NUT you will do just fine. I wish you all the best.

Congrats on making it through the first week. Sounds like it's the toughest. It's all downhill from here (little weight loss pun for you)! ;-)

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
