Dr. Jalil Illan with Baja Bariatrics and Omar Acosta - A Warning

Recommended Posts

i am new here, but have been reading posts constantly for the last 2 months...to choose a surgeon. 1st choice, unfortunately passed away. i read some kind of ranting from the original poster about not going to him because she found a complication (years later?). i disregarded that information. now i am looking at dr. ilan. this is not helpful. this sounds like a bunch of high school girls fighting over who got dumped. i'm not looking for my coordinator to be my best friend. unless something inappropriate happened while under anesthesia, i don't think any of this is relevant to his medical practice. was necessary medicine withheld for sexual favors? did they refuse to take them to the border unless they had sex? who is thinking about hooking up in mexico after bariatric surgery????? i have spoken with omar, and frankly he sounds pretty balanced compared to a couple of other coordinators in this price point i am not looking to go to Tijuana for a vacation, or to party like i am 18. i am looking for the most competent surgeon to do the job. i don't care so much about their romantic lives, as much as....how much weight have they lost? did they have any complications?

Oh look, another new person joined just to discredit me and our victims. Thank you. Just because I have X-rays showing where my surgeon botched my surgery and posted about it means I am nothing more than a raving lunatic and therefore, anything else I post is clearly garbage. And, of course, I am sure that none of the six violated woman, (that we know of, I am sure there are more) were interested in improving their health, losing weight or finding a competent doctor. Of course, you must be correct, they were looking for a good time! Well, that explains it.

Thank you so much for joining just to add your valuable information to this topic, posting, clarifying what really happened and clearing all this up.

Not sl ut shaming (your words) I think that it speaks on her character therefore her creditabilty. Also Susan I think you did a poor a job on presenting this matter if this is truly something sinister going on its not being received that way.I think most of ppl are seeing this as a group of butt hurt women trying to get back at there jerk ex lover this is what it sounds like. So if he's abusing his power manipulating women into thinking they have to have sex with him prove it. Show us he's being creepy and making unwanted sexual advances on women who have said NO. Otherwise its he said she said.

you have issues.

Absolutely, I have issues with someone who is supposed to be a professional satisfying his personal needs by preying on his patients.

Stop using the word victim. I was victimized as a child with no choice, being manipulated by an older relative. The women and children that I work with are victims and survivors, fighting their way through abusive relationships, drug abuse, incest, and physical abuse and neglect.

These women are scorned lovers who were dumped and now feel vengeful because their love was rebuffed. Instead of just addressing the man who broke their heart privately, they decided to discredit his employer. They recruited Susan and Alex on their mission.

This really isn't about Omar. I hope the casual lurker sees that this thread was intending to discredit a doctor and his medical practice!

Uh, two of the people have posted here. Others are afraid to because of the bullying taking place. And, sorry, I only just now have gotten around to having hidden cameras placed in all the hospital and hotel rooms.

If this stuff happened while in the hospital definitely totally not cool and would be illegal - but that doesn't seem to be the case here as it seems to have happened later when they returned to visit HIM (not as a patient).

Travelmego, I find it fascinating that, even though you have been told by more that one person, including one of the women involved, that the incident happened DURING the sleeve trip, you have yet to respond in any way.

Instead, you continue to repeat your misinformation about the supposed (now disproved) trip back to Mexico "for the affair". The quote above is just an example, you have repeated it more than once in your posts.

This is odd and it seems like you are willfully ignoring it. Reminds me of how you were about Susan accidentally posting under her fiance's login.

This is just an observation.

They only admitted to having consensual sex with him. They didn't really explained what happened I'll go back an re read it maybe I missed somthing but it didn't prove to me anything illegal or sinister happened.

You know what Lipstick lady, I coud be wrong but I actually I don't think there is any medical ethic in the usa covering an administrative support staff dating a former patient. I will have to research it. I am certainly not excusing the situation - I think it is a dumb thing to date former patients - the same way I think co-workers dating is not that bright. If this stuff happened while in the hospital definitely totally not cool - but that doesn't seem to be the case here as it seems to have happened later when they returned to visit HIM (not as a patient).

And yes, several people have mentioned the scenario that I mentioned about the impression that people got that he was somehow molesting people while under anesthesia (or the like).

. Let me clarify something for you Travelmego, what happened to me did take place when I was there for my sleeve and not on a return visit. I did go back to Tijuana, but not it was to have another surgery, he and I were not even communicating any more. I did stay at the same hotel because it is safe, nice and close to the hospital I was using. However I was not prepared for the fact that he has keys or pass cards rather to these rooms. Imagine my surprise to walk into my room one evening only to find him there.

So if you weren't talking any more, then you must have paid for your flight, pick up from the airport, hotel and never expected any other travel arrangements from him. He basically just showed up to fk you and you had no idea. Right? Answer carefully because I've got a screen shot of you telling someone that he left you at the dentist because he was busy working and that made you mad.

For pete's sake what do her marriage vows have to do with the issue at hand here? Really not relevant, sorry. More sl ut shaming I'm afraid.

REALLY? I mean really?! She stood before God and made promises. She's just as much a liar and unethical as sunnuri! It has everything to do with the type of person she is... overweight or not! Gastric sleeve or not! She's married for Christ's sake!

I can only read at a third grade level so I couldn't make it through all these posts made by higher level readers. From what I could comprehend though is that you should be careful not to have sex with a stranger even if they is nice to you. You should be careful. If you are their boss you should tell them not to sleep with their customers cuz it is bad for business. Plus, you don't need to have the sleeve surgery and also wind up with no baby so you might want to just say no or bring a lot of condoms. Now, frankly, I saw Omar's picture an I so would have fkd him, but then again I'm a big whore. I hope this helps everyone.

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried??? They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs. They don't bother me at all. Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

      1. NickelChip

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

      3. NickelChip

I think it's important to remember that the weight charts and BMI ranges were developed a very long time ago and only intended to be applied to people who have never been overweight or obese. Those numbers aren't for us. When you are larger, especially for a long time, your body develops extra bone to support the weight. Your organs get a little bigger to handle the extra mass. Your entire infrastructure increases so you can support and function with the extra weight. That doesn't all go away just because you burn off the excess fat. If you still had a pair of jeans from your skinniest point in life and then lost weight to get to the exact number on the scale you were when those jeans fit you, chances are they would be a little baggy now because you would actually be thinner than you were, even though the scale and the BMI chart disagree. When in doubt, listen to the jeans, not the scale!

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
