I had that problem and couldn't eat or drink. My surgeon did a couple EGD (endoscopy tube with a balloon) which didn't help and then I was admitted and had to get my gall bladder removed 2.5 months after my bypass and had to have TPN for a month after I got out of the hospital. I still wear a anti nausea patch and I am over 4 months post op and cannot eat any meat, as it makes me feel really sick. Call your doctor and let them know.

What is TPN? I am just nauseous all the time and feel like I need to rely in the zofran med. I am going to call my dr. Why did they have to take out the gallbladder does it have to do with the nausea?

Not sure what TPN stands for, but it was intravenous nutrition given to me through a PICC line. I had to take zofran and phenegran as well as carafate and protonix because I couldn't keep anything down and was pretty much malnourished and dehydrated to the point where it got dangerous. The gall bladder can have a lot to do with nausea and it was the reason for most of my nausea issues. I am doing great now, as long as I don't eat meat.

TPN Total Parenteral Nutrition. Nutrition that comes from outside the gut. Try Candied Ginger. You bite a few times, like chewing tobacco and then put it between your cheek and gum. Works great and better taste than that medicine. Health food stores have it.

I felt that way for the first few weeks but it went away. Now I only feel that way if I eat too much or eat something that doesn't agree with my pouch. I think you should check with your doctor. You don't want to get dehydrated.

I am 4 weeks out and have been suffering from chronic nausea since my surgery. My doctor seems to think it will go away by week 6 but at this rate I just don't know. I went in for a cat scan and blood work on Friday but my doctor seems to think it is a side effect of the surgery. It is miserable so I feel for you. It's hard to feel sick all day every day.

I had surgery the 8th and my nausea started around the 10th. The nausea meds my doctor gave me are sweet and only make it worse. I keep trying to drink some Protein drink or Protein Water but it just makes me sick. Today I have been able to tolerate ice chips. My hubby went and got me some G2 Gatorade lemon lime flavor and that seems to be helping. I was so afraid I would get dehydrated and end up in the hospital. I think once I get the nausea under control I can maybe start drinking protein again. I'm sorry everyone is going through this, but it is nice to know I'm not alone. Feel better soon.

Omg finally someone to relay with. I can't eat anything and when I try it's worse. I was given zofran and reglan. Nothing is working!!! Are trying anything?

I can't take ANY of the prescription meds with the exception of a scopolamine patch because of serious drug interactions with another medication I take. Before the pharmacist caught the interaction, I had taken Zofran but it didn't touch it. I have tried Ginger, Peppermint, Bonine, Dramamine - nothing will work. I have already been in the ER once for dehydration. I honestly would rather be experiencing pain and be on pain meds the feel like this everyday. I am kind of hopefully something shows off in my blood work. Waiting this out has been miserable. I would like a concrete answer other than "it will go away eventually."

I just tried some mashed potato and I was able to eat about 2 tbls. It was the powdered potato that comes in the little cups. I made it as directed, then took 2 tbls out and put it in a small bowl. I added about 2 tsp of unflavored Protein powder and 2 tbls skim milk. It is more like a Soup, but tiny tummy likes it. I only ate about 1 tbls so far, but tummy says she is full. I hope I can keep this down.

No, lemonade won't help, it has to be the actual lemon. Put a slice in your mouth and suck the juice out- it will be bitter but it should immediately take the nausea away :)

Thanks, I'm going to have to give that a try.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
