Question...?

Does it irk anyone, when you see others who have had WLS and they are cheating? I know it isn't my business. But...these are the same individuals who have asked me for help, in either diet or exercise. So, yeah, it kinda does irk me.

Am I jealous that they are snacking on something yummy and delicious? I don't know.

I just know, I'm trying my darnedest to stay focused, to move to the 10 lbs under, to hopefully reach my goal. I know when I've cheated and it always sets me back. Which is why I'm trying not too.

I do not want to be one of those who gains it all back. I have a few friends who seem to already given up. I do not want to be one of them.

Even if I do not loose another pound, I do not want to gain it all back. I'm healthier now. I'm able to function without being out of breath.

So, am I the only one who gets angry when I see this.? I don't want to go back to being shy, scared, and not outgoing. I like who I've become.

It bothers me also.

I don't think that these people should be broadcasting what they are doing and making light of it. Especially the ones that say they are still losing weight.

I think they have a lot of nerve doing this on this board.

They are not setting a good example for the rest of us that try really hard to stick with our proper eating.

Shame on them.

i think what you said is the main issue

when someone "brags" on here that they are successful with losing weight,

but they break this rule or that, and eat something in excess, or graze, maybe not following one rule or another..............

bad for regular sleevers to hear, but. when..............

NEWBIES hear this/and possibly listen to such words as "its ok for you to.."

thats when the trouble/problems begins

basically does bother me when i hear from others they are not fully, properly taking advantage of their WLS by breaking the important rules that we must/need to follow for the rest of our lives to remain successful

It doesn't irritate me, I just feel bad for them. I think the maintenance stage will be difficult when the restriction is less and you haven't changed your eating habits. I wish everyone success but there's a reason statistics show a lot of people experience weight gain after maintenance.

We all do not measure success in the same way. One person may only want to lose enough weight to get off of some medications or be eligible for knee surgery. We don't know what everyone's story is nor should we want to. The only thing we need to worry about is keeping our side of the street clean. Do not measure other people's journey's by your own measure of success. I can guarantee you the folks on here will never be able to meet your expectations. Remember, expectations are merely future resentments. Do yourself a favor and don't take other people's inventory. But don't let that keep you from sharing your experiences. When you share your experience, strength and hope, the one you are helping is yourself.

Keep it real, folks. Remember where we all came from, lest we be damned to repeat it.

I'm getting banded next Thursday, and it drives me crazy when my MIL (sleeved) says things like "welp, you wont be able to do THAT after surgery" even though I watch her snack constantly on the wrong foods, eat too large of portions, drink and eat at the same time, etc.

I almost wish I hadn't told anyone, even people with WLS (I know 4), because even though its nice to 'learn' from their mistakes, I want to get all I can out of this without people say "say goodbye to THAT" or "no more of THIS!"

It shouldn't bother anyone,it's you that you have to, need to worry about. You don't have to read what they post, but maybe they are having a difficult time. I mean, our stomachs change, but our minds are still the same.I don't want to judge anyones journey, this isn't easy, and I don't know what their predicaments are. It's their journey, and their life. Who are we to judge? I wish you luck!

Lots of excellent advise. And PDXman did say it best.

I was actually referring to real people I know. Looking back, I didn't realize what I said could be used for the forum as well.

I guess I'm frustrated from my friends, whining and crying, while shoveling crap into their mouth. While I'm over her trying to be Miss Goody Two Shoes.

I should try to stop watching others and worry about myself. That's when I actually do my best. Because when it comes down to the scale, it's me and the scale.

Thanks all!!!

It doesn't bother me at all I just shake my head and wonder why someone would put themselves through it all just to go back to the same old habits?? It makes me scratch my head! But it doesn't bother me.. It's a free country!! Hahah I am 6 days out and I have and will continue to follow doctors orders to a tee! If I didn't want to do this I wouldn't have had the surgery.. But that's just me.

I think everything in the thread can be used for real life as well as the forum. As I mentioned, all we really need to do is be accountable to ourselves and keep our side of the street clean. Don't let people's egos or behaviors affect you.

The world is made up of rule makers and rule breakers. What others choose to do has no true impact on me or my weight loss. I look for support from those that have been following the rules and are successful. Does that mean I won't ever break a rule? Of course not. I'm only human and as hard as I try to follow the rules and lose the weight, I sometimes become weak and stumble. I do try to make conscious decisions of everything I put in my mouth but does everyone do this? I doubt it, it's their life and their problem so let them do it their way. We all place a different value on health and that's okay, if everyone was 100% successful with WLS it would devalue our journey. Then it really would be "the easy way out". Anything worth having is worth working for .... so I'm working for my health and my future life. If someone else doesn't achieve that...I'm not affected.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
