It's encouraging to hear how well you are all doing. My day is Tuesday and I'm still nervous, but I'll be glad when it's over.

How are all the May Bandsters doing post op?

I'll start....

I am post op day 5 and I have soooooo much energy. I am feeling great, no real major gas pains, very minimal and that has pretty much subsided.

I can wait to see where I am 1 month post op.

WHAT ABOUT YOU?

How are all the May Bandsters doing post op?

Doing good! About 11 days post op. Haven't lost any since I moved to mushies Thursday, but I guess that's to be expected. 21 lbs since pre op diet tho!

I got the ok to workout on Thursday, so after a weekend out of town, I went to the gym today and swam some laps. I'm still pretty tender on my port side. But I got about 30 mins in. I feel like I'm the only one here who is still having some pain/tenderness from the port.

food is going good. Trying to teach myself good habits of eating slow and chewing well, which my former self knew nothing about. 3 meals of 1/2 cup are keeping me plenty full. Went to chipotle yesterday and had the sofritas (tofu) with some guac/sour cream/veggies and it was awesome to feel like I could eat "out" again. I had about 7 small bites and was full, SUCH a weird feeling.

I've only felt discomfort once with food and I know it's cause I was eating too fast, as soon as I slowed down, everything was fine.

Glad to hear you're doing well dlamp112!

Glad you are doing well dlamp :) Betty - you're not the only one having tenderness around the port area. I am still quite swollen around the area and getting concerned but people have mentioned that it could take up to 2 months before it's healed and the swelling is gone. Occasionally I get really sharp pains there. I have lost maybe 2 lbs. since my first post-op appt. which was last Monday. It's discouraging to see the weight slow down but I'm sure we will at least lose the 1-2 lbs. a week. I wish we could drop 21 or 22 lbs. every month like during pre-op and right after.

I have port tenderness too still! It's about the only thing that still hurts. I'm 10 days post op now. I'm eating about 1/2 c as well. Trying to get a lot of Protein in so I don't lose my hair.

Had surgery on the 16th, the surgeon also did work on a hiatal hernia, not feeling to bad today, have tons of energy. The first few days where terrible, but now the worst part is the gas pain, can't wait for the mushies, between the preop diet and the liquids I am ready for a little substance. How's every else doing?

@@betty_s Wow! One thing this forum has shown me is the big differences among hospitals and doctors. I'm amazed you're eating food, lucky girl! While mine didn't have me do a pre-op, she gets us back into food very slowly over a five step schedule, each phase lasts a week. I will have nothing but Clear Liquids for the first week, broth, popsicles and Jello. Then full liquids, diluted cream Soup, Cream of Wheat, and Protein Shakes. Third week is pureed food, fourth is soft foods and after five weeks the regular diet.

I'm going to two big parties on June 7 -8, and I'll be sitting there drinking a Protein Shake and eating 1/2 C Jello while my friends stuff themselves with delicious food. But I have to remember the rewards are worth it.

Today is my big day folks. When the hospital called with my arrival time yesterday I was shocked. Every operation I've had was one of those deals where I had to be there at 5 AM, surgery at 7 AM. Mine is 1:30 PM and I don't need to be there until 11:30. I figure by 1:30 the surgeon will be exhausted, drowsy from lunch and ready for an afternoon nap!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
