Vitamins and Supplements

Recommended Posts

What kind of vitamins/supplements did you all start with right after surgery? There are so many out there and it's overwhelming! Don't know where to start!

I wouldn't be in a big hurry to grab a bunch of Vitamins or supplements. Wait for the blood test results from you post-op follow up with your Doc. Then you can address any deficiencies if you have any. If you want to set your mind as ease, just grab any ole Multivitamin Gummy.

They told me to pick a prenatal with any amount of Iron and Calcium and add that to my current D3 and B12 regimen (have a history of deficiencies in those). I chose BellyBar chewables, which have a mild taste (though who really knows how things will taste after sugery?). Different forms/combinations of Vitamins have better absorption rates, but unless my bloodwork shows new deficiencies I'm going to stick with the cheaper stuff.

I agree with Mel...your doctor should give you some sort of guideline for supplements. I chose Celebrate ..multi Vitamin w/iron, B-50 Complex and calcium chews.< /p>

yes, each doctor gives you a list... you may qualify for free bariatric Vitamins (along with Protein shakes and scar cream) by filling out the form at InsureNutrition.com... I didn't qualify for the multi-Vitamin, but they sent me a bottle as a "sample"...a months worth! :)

I was given these absolutely disgusting foul nasty A-Z liquid Vitamin drops!

In my 30s and my mum would have to drop the 12 drops in my mouth because after the first time I just could not do it then I would sit there with this pool if gross in my mouth because I did not want to swallow it lol

Soon as I could I tossed them out for kids orange chewable ones and just double the amount instead.

Now I take adult A-Zinc ones way better!

I also came out with adcal-D3 which is a effervescent Calcium and D combination lemon flavour.

And then what I was on already which was folic acid and a strong B complex.

I got blood work alllllll the time so if something was low I would be given booster pills to bring that back up.

I had my surgery at Mass General in Boston. They gave us a recommended list of Vitamins. I take two Flintstones Complete chewables (gummies are no good) , 500mg of B12 tha melts under the tongue, 2000mg of Vitamin D, and calcium citrate (make sure it's citrate not magnesium). I've never felt better in my life.

There is no fixed dosage of bariatric Vitamins and supplements for anyone and no Vitamin that has all Vitamins in one. The dosage is dependent on your needs and is to be prescribed by the consulting doctor. I take Calcium in malate chelate 1200 mcg in a serving of 4 capsules, Multivitamins in multi-standard formula and 1 Vitamin B12 sublingual in the form of methylcobalamin with 1000mcg.

I changed to many different brands like Centrum, Flintstones but all had some sort of side-effects most commonly stomach pain and nausea. Finally I consulted my nut who advised me Vita4Life .But I did a thorough check before consuming and found no fillers in these vitamins. I have been taking them for over three years now and have returned some good lab results.

You should consult your doctor before choosing any Vitamin. I take Calcium in malate chelate 1200 mcg in a serving of 4 capsules, Multivitamins in multi-standard formula and 1 vitamin B12 sublingual in the form of methylcobalamin with 1000mcg upon my doctor’s advice. I get all of them from Vita4Life.< /p>

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
