Survey - Carbonated Drinks? Do u drink them?

Recommended Posts

Lapnicky- I caved yesterday and thought of this feed. I wanted to let you know I had 2 sips of diet Pepsi yesterday (which was my love before surgery) and I was shocked I did not like the taste! It tasted sweet and like sand! The first sip went down ok but the second sip (which was small sips) left a huge bubble feeling in my chest for about 30 minutes. It was uncomfortable! I just wanted to let you know incase you try it as well as a heads up to sip slow!! Ohhhh how I miss my diet Pepsi but don't think I'm going to have it again. Goo luck!!

The "old" me used to love Coke Cola...the classic...loved everything Coke flavored...now...two months out....I NEVER (thank the Lord) think about, desire, crave or have curiosity about any carbonated beverages....none...I am hoping that this part of my life is completely over : - )

I do.. every day. lol. I'm 3 months post op. I drink about 3 oz and it's enough. Much better than the 100 oz I drank before surgery.

three weeks post op I was drinking a half can of diet Sprite (ZERO) no problem at all, with two caveat: absolutely not with food, minimum 1 hr before or after food. Just tonight (4 weeks post op) my Coca Cola addiction got the best of me, I drank some while eating, and it was the first major mistake I've made since surgery. I was VERY, VERY, uncomfortable; bloated and in pain. I chased my 3 yr old around the house to hopefully aid in digestion, it worked, brought up a huge burp but a burp that contained the contents of my stomach. This of corse is a vomit-burp, or simply, a VURP.

If you want to have soda, sip it slowly and keep food out of the equation.

I'm with you. I totally told myself certain things would forever be forbidden although I know they are not. But I do not want to slide back into drinking real non diet cokes which I know put a lit of weight on me.

I look at it this way. Addictions are all the same. For some it may be drugs or alcohol. For others its foods. When a addict decides to clean up, all it takes is just one time to slip back to where they were. So when it comes to certain foods, I feel its best to abstain than to take a chance. If any of us really had the willpower to control ourselves prior to the surgery, we wouldn't have needed the surgery to begin with.

Today its a couple sips of soda or a bite or two of bread. Tomorrow its a whole glass and a 12 inch subway. I have worked too hard and put myself through too much to take a chance. I am in this for the long haul. Eating to Live not Living To Eat!!!!

I had an issue with soda as well...I started taking Topamax for Migraines, and the side effect is that it makes carbonated beverages taste like crap. So...that helped me kick the habit and the weight came flying off!

I was never a soda drinker, but beer is another story..... I tried a few sips at 5 months out and it didn't feel good. Then about a month ago I discovered I can drink "lightly" carbonated things like hard cider or Mike's lemonade if I shake it up and then pour over ice and let sit awhile to defizz. But soda or any carbonated beverage straight out of the bottle or can would be out of the question for me.

No, I don't drink them anymore.

My surgeon gave me very few instructions and one of them is NO soda or sparkling Water, which I strictly follow.

My doctor said "Carbonation will ruin this surgery" so I haven't had any but I'm only a few weeks out. We'll see how I feel in a year or so I hope I stay strong.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
