Guy's any regrets?

Recommended Posts

Ready2bhealthy -- great topic

I grilled my surgeon about this asking if an of his thousands of patients regretted the surgery and he said none had. None! That was hard for me to believe but now -- three months post opp -- I believe it. Energy levels only increase especially when you realize how much EASIER everything is without carrying around all the extra weight. I'm down more than 50 pounds and for fun pick up two 25 pound dumb bells and imagine living every minute of life walking around with those things. It's amazing how much accommodation fat people make to carry around their weight. Sitting out of activities, buying clothes that are only double / triple x, not flying or or dreading squeezing into the tiny seat, etc, etc.

I had my doubts but at this point, the only thing I regret is not doing it sooner. Life is sooooooo much easier with a normal weight and normal relationship with food.

Good luck and feel free to send me a personal message with any specific questions.

Family guy.

Hello guys, the surgery went well and I go for my leak test this morning. The first night was the worst because the I was sick from the anesthesia. I feel better everyday I'm looking forward to my new life with the sleeve.

I am waiting on my surgery date and I have many instances of second guessing my decision. I am sure once I get a surgery date and the time get closer I will have many more "break downs". Reading these forums and watching all of the videos on YouTube have been a great help. Thanks to all of you that take time to answer questions and talk us that are waiting for surgery or just had surgery off of the ledge. :-)

No regrets at all now...I think i had one small instance of questioning my decision, the day after the surgery. I think it was because I wasn't keeping anything down, but it was because I kept trying to do things the 'old' way, by drinking and eating too fast!! But now that I've stopped being so damned stubborn, I'm good!! 4 weeks out, and getting back to the gym as well as walking, and losing inches and pounds...EVERYTHING in my closet now is too big!!! Very Cool!!!

I'm almost 3 months out and down 85 pounds. At this point I don't regret surgery but earlier I did. I had internal bleeding 5 days post op requiring a second surgery and an ambulance ride to the ER. I almost died. At that point I wished I'd not done the sleeve. I followed all the rules pre op and chose a great surgeon, but things can still go wrong. I never thought I'd be the one that had complications.

Now, down 85 pounds and feeling great I'm glad I did it. I'm off 7 out of 8 meds and much healthier.

Only regret is waiting so long to have it! Only 10 weeks out and life has completely changed for the better. I feel like I am on the right track health-wise. It's crazy what a little weight loss will do for your confidence. There have been many times when I thought, was this the right decision? Like one other poster mentioned, your relationship, or in my case "love affair" with food completely changes. But, its probably a good thing. For me it definitely was a good thing. You will still be able to enjoy things, just in much smaller amounts.

Hope you are recovering well and best of luck on your journey!

Hello Guys, Surgery went well and I am now 10 days post op. I am down 11 pounds from my surgery date and 20 pounds from when I started my pre op diet for a grand total of 20 lbs. I feel good and I am working on making sure to get all my fluids and Protein in. Today I have a little less energy but I was expecting that to happen at some point. I am looking forward to my six week mark when I can start eating regular food, just less of it obviously. Do you guys have any tips and pointers foe my first six weeks post op?

Congratulations on a successful surgery! The best advice is to follow the plan of your Surgeon and NUT, Drink plenty of Water, Eat Protein first. start exercising when you are able.

Good Luck!

Congrats!

macman is right on, follow your Doc's and NUT's advice. Take it easy until the Doc clears you to exercise, don't want to blow an incision. You will feel stronger in a couple of weeks. Pretty soon you'll be a gym rat like the rest of us.

BTW, I am 3 months out and absolutely no regrets!

The only regret us not doing it sooner. It has been 13 months since I have has the surgery. I was super morbidly obese. 484 pounds. I was slowly eating myself to death. Well. Maybe not slowly. But I certainly was on my way to Not being able to move and take care of myself. I was always in pain. Planned my life around how to limit my activity to what would not hurt. I was alive but I was not living my life. I was just existing. After 13 months, I have lost 216 pounds. I have completely changed my lifestyle. I exercise every day. I make healthy choices when eating. I still follow the program as I still have 70 pounds to lose. I am now in the best shape of my entire adult life. I can do almost anything. I feel great and am healthy, even though I am still morbidly obese. Never doubt what you decide to do for a healthier you. Trust. It is the right decision. Do not put it off.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
