I read that the size of the stomach is generally up to the surgeon (sometimes with patient input) and the size of the bougie selected for use in the operation. The bougie is not the size of the new stomach, just a tool that the surgeon uses to inflate the stomach and guide where the staples go during the procedure.

Hope this helps some.

Cheers!

In my consult with my surgeon I asked about the bougie size she uses, she explained that the size of the bougie doesn't neccesarily equal the size of the sleeve. Other factors affect the size, like your surgeon cutting directly against the bougie or a set distance from it, or the surgeon, with your stomach in his hands so to speak, sees something that makes him shape it differently, etc. Buy she did say that most sleeves are within a certaiin accepted range and the expectation is around 3 to 4 ounces immediately following surgery, if I remember correctly

So my understanding is yes, the sizes can different based upon the surgeon and the patient. But you should ask your surgeon.

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
