Sleeve today, in recovery

Recommended Posts

Accidentally originally posted this in the bypass forum, reporting since I had the sleeve.

Arrived for checking in at 7:15 this morning.

Got walked back to the OR around 8. woke up around 11,

Not very much pain so far, did a small walk from the post op area to my recovery area, only about 10 yards around 11:20,

Have been able to already manage 6 to 8 oz of Water, very minimal pain so far. Found out I had a small hiatal hernia as well which was repaired.

Blood sugar still coming down from the initial levels, so far so good. I keep dozing in and out for 10 minutes at a time.

Congrats! I'm glad to hear that you are not in too much pain. I wasn't so lucky, even with all the morphine they pumped me up with. Keep walking, and if need be when you go home, use heading pads on your tummy and back to help with the pain from the trapped air--if you have it. If you have trouble with the fluids, sugar free popsicles are a life saver. Anyway, congrats again on commencing yout new way of life!

Sounds like you are doing great - My husband and I had no sleeve problems. I think it went 10 times easier than expected LOL! Very serious, So I would say just relax and enjoy your rest, getting waited on. I have had so much more energy, am off Metformin, and my husband's blood sugar runs about 110, not 350 every morning. Still on his basic dose of insulin, but no raging blood sugars since we have no more carbs or sugars. He used to eat massive amounts of fruits at night to keep his blood sugar from dropping to 40 at night, and now he is having no more night sweats and problems thank God. Take care!

ur one tough cookie! Don't know if I would even think about posting on the day of my surgery. I wish you the best recovery and since I have had previous surgeries, (including the band) I would only advise you to stay on top of your pain meds because often we try to "tough" things out because we get that false sense of security from the anesthesia still being in our system. And then "WHAM!" it wears off and we are then playing catch up with our pain meds. Better safe than sorry, imo. Take care :-)

Congratulations. I don't know how you are posting. I was in and out of sleep the whole time and had absolutely nothing with me (phone) to post with even if I could. This is the start of a great journey best of luck.

I had my wife's iPad Mini and was posting from the wifi at the weight loss center They have their own surgical/recovery, so no hospital for me. I was in and out from sleep as well, I would take a sip and do something until I nodded off, which usually happened within 15 minutes.

I'm at home now (was discharged around 8am this morning). Feeling pretty good, minimal pain so far, I'm being careful to keep up on the hydrocodone and Zofran.

Wow. I'm impressed. I couldn't even read the letters on my keyboard till the next day (was so gorked from anesthesia).

Congrats on the lack of pain. I pretty much stayed on top of the every 2 hrs Dilaudid for 2 days. Then the liquid Vicodin for 10 days. Had a rougher recovery than most on here.

Good luck to u! Get some rest!

Welcome to the family! Walk as much as possible, use your legs to get up and down, drink small sips every 15 minutes.

Its nice to be home isn't it? I hope you have all the support you need in place. I was curious, though, how long will it be before you follow up with your surgeon and how long did your surgeon say to wait before you could exercise?

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
