Desperately seeking sleever....HELP!

Recommended Posts

Good Evening fellow Sleevers,

Today marks 6 days Post OP, Im actually still in shock that I had the strength to follow through with the Surgery. As much as I am proud of myself, I had a terrible bout with the Nausea.... I had to stay an additional day in the Hospital, I was released Monday, after a weekend of Ups-& Downs and crying and emotional breakdowns I can say I'm doing a little better! Because I was so Nauseous, and vomited most of my hospital stay i was regretful.

Now im home and trying to muster up energy to eat, I have not had a great day, Yesterday was a better day, but not super fantastic, I been getting down 20-40 OZ on this last stretch. Today I went to the hospital because I felt like crap when I woke up I thought I was dehydrated, not really the case however, they gave me an IV of fluids! I felt much better, now i'm just fearful, and trying to figure out what to do to be successful on this journey, and with eating enough nutrients.... I have been having to force myself to drink, I am one who loved Water pre surgery, this was by drink of choice, ICE COLD Water, and now it seems like Ice Cold Water makes me Nauseous, does anyone else deal with this problem? Im still on my liquid diet till Monday, although it has not been much of a liquid diet, I been trying to drink juice to get my sugar in and Protein shakes to get some sort of Protein in.

Still this feels like a huge Chore, I know I need some sort of regiment although I have sample menus, nothing is really working! I still get Nauseous not as much, everyday it gets easier. I'M IN DESPERATE NEED OF HELP!!!

Any Advice?

It is a huge learning process. Try room temp Water, crystal light, Warm water.

I had a lot of issues with nausea also but it stopped after about a week. Are you on Prilosec or similar.?

It does get better

So sorry you had such problems. I am sure you are agitated with all the problems and worry. I think if you can relax a bit, sip that room temp Water and broth a couple days, you will feel better and then get going here with questions from the experts about your eating. Prayers for you to feel better. Take care, Linda

I'm four weeks post-op and I still do not drink any iced drinks. I like room temp or Hot Drinks. I found in the hospital that cold causes me cramps I'm my new tummy, so I'm just taking my time with cold. The first week is hard but you'll get through it and I promise it does get better. The time passes quick and you will get to feeling better.

Your body has been through MAJOR surgery, and needs time to recover. Unfortunately nausea is a big post-surgical reality, but it eases within a week or two. I felt like you do at 1 week - wondering what the hell I had done to myself, and second guessing my surgery every moment. I PROMISE it gets much better pretty quickly!!!

My advice - keep forcing down the liquids, you are on Clear Liquids now - so focus on broths, Water, crystal light, and Protein shakes if they are allowed. Follow your doctors nutritional advice closely.

When you can, make sure you are getting enough Protein down. My doctor said to have a glass of protein in one hand and a glass of Water in the other and to take small sips back and forth almost constantly. In reality, I couldn't hold the glasses that long, but the concept of constant small sips is a good one while your stomach is inflamed following surgery.

At about 3 weeks you should be getting 60 grams of protein and 64 oz of water in each day. This is important for healing and to start to feel better.

Just remember to be kind to yourself, and to take baby steps and it will get better quickly and when you see how the weight comes off you will be glad you had the surgery! Hang in there it is worth it!

Oh my!!! It was like reading my experience in detail. Everything that is happening to you happened to me. On point! The first few days I thought I was in hell.....I was vomiting and crying for days post op. There were days I woke up to dizzy to use the restroom....it was a nightmare. On the second week I started to get better, from then on I've been doing OK! Hang in there it does get better over time. Sip, sip, and sip. ;)

In the hospital the juice..even though watered down because of the sugar made me really nauseous and gave me heaves..I never vomited but now I steer completely clear of juice..just a thought..alng with others in taking a PPI which I'm sure you already do. Hope you feel better! Almost forgot! Iced Decaf tea with sweet n low ....really helped me get in liquids week 1. ;-)

Okay I am going to be really frank with you, the first week was so awful! The second week was a little better , the third week I really started to feel like myself again. Most people don't have a nausea issue after the first few weeks. I still do though and I am 8 weeks out.

Keep you chin up...You'll be fine..it was up to week 5 that I felt like crap..But like everyone else says and it is so true...Protein & water!!! I couldn't stand shakes..I couldn't handle the smell or the texture..I'm at week 8 now & I drink them & actually like them now..I drink alot of hot/warm tea with skim milk...bottled Water a room temp..I can eat almost anything (couple of bites). I did get very emptional/depressed in the beginning & did ask myself on several occasions "wtf did I do to myself" again like everyone else says..it passes..Hang in there, its tough right now & I promise it will get better..

I found a timer and a counter app for my phone and set the timer for 15 minutes. My Dr said to get start with 1/2 ounce every 15 minutes and progress to 1 once as tolerated. I sipped the liquid, taking 10-15 second to finish the portion. During the week after surgery I chose liquids that gave the most Protein with the smallest volume ie proti fruit drink and premium whey Protein from Sam's club. Don't overload your system, slow and steady wins the nausea, dehydration, and protein race. Now is not the time for regrets. Be excited for the body you will have, the new found health and all the possibilities your new future holds.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
