Any sleevers with low BMI Range 32-35

Recommended Posts

If there are any sleevers on here with a low BMI or have around 60lbs to loose I would love to hear your experiences weather you have been sleeved or plan to be be sleeved. I'm being told I'm not overweight enough to be sleeved.

I started off with a BMI of 44 so I cannot relate, but I do get that you want help with weight loss. Were you able to get approved with such a low BMI?

Ya...I gained 10 pounds to get approved. I wore heavier clothing, made sure not to clear my bladder...did everything I could to hit that 40 BMI. Needed 100 pounds to lose and I only have 15 more to go.

I was sleeved at a 35 BMI. But I did have 3 co morbidities that helped to get approval. I was 1. Diabetic 2. High blood pressure 3. Mild sleep apnea. I was sleeved Dec 20 and have lost about 25 lbs so far, now my BMI is 32

I started with a lower BMI than most, and want to lose a total of 74 lbs. I was self pay from the get-go, because our company's insurance has a specific exclusion for weight loss surgery.

I started at 206 lbs at 5'2". I can't see my signature with my BMI since I am on my phone, but I think my BMI was 36ish. I had a goal of losing 81 pounds and I've lost 90. Best decision I have ever made!

Hi,

My BMI is on the lower end with no co-morbidities so my only option is Mexico.

It's sad that in Canada and the US you have to be really unhealthy to get WLS but on the bright side, we can affordably go to Mexico!

I'm excited!! 3 wks to go!!

I'll be in TJ Feb 3-8 booked with Dr E Ortiz, Mi hospital, Marriot.

I think my Bmi was like 32? I did self pay in Mexico. Brace yourself for the fact that you will lose much, much slower than the stories you see here. People who started heavier than me at the same time are now lighter than I am.

I somewhat regret the sleeve, but on the other hand who knows how fat I would have gotten without it. I do have a friend who was even smaller, and she's lost 25 lb in 8 wks. I lost 4 lb in 5 weeks. On the plus side, it really reduces hunger and sweet tooth.

I was sleeved on 11/28/13 in Costa Rica with a BMI of 32 with co-morbidities. It would not even be an option in the US. I have lost 29 pounds since then, and it feels slow, but even with stalls, the weight is coming off consistently. You are correct it may be slower with low BMI..kinda like all the times we would be on a diet and when you get toward that last 10-20 it feels impossible, but it is not impossible now. The sleeve you are about to get is a tool for your lifetime. I was tired of swinging up and down in 40 pound increments every couple of years and the potential health risks that go with it. My sleeve and it's restriction is already preventing me from a major binge. I try to stay on program, but if I take a bite or sip of something not on program, the sleeve holds me back from eating the whole enchilada! Also, sugar does not sit too well, which is what I was hoping for.

I'm 5'9, late build, starting weight 219..current weight 190. Goal...I don't know...160-170... Let's see where my body goes. My husband was sleeved same day as me with a starting weight of 280, BMI 42.... He has lost 50 pounds as of today and his BMI is 33. We expect his weight loss to slow down as he gets closer to his goal of 210. He may actually get to goal before me which we will Celebrate like we do every pound that is lost.

Another thing that I have dealt with is despite my weight, I was only about a size 12 some 14's. I do not mind telling people about my surgery, but I consistently get comments about how I'm so tall, carry my weight well, etc....why would you take the easy way out? I hold firm and explain it is for health reasons....and this surgery is not the easy way out. It is a huge decision and commitment for the rest of your life. My boss, who is a doctor, asked me if I realized I'll never be able it pig-out again. I responded that I'm quite aware of that, and that's the idea. It's about health...not the size 8.

We all have the same physical and emotional weight issues whether 400 or 200 pounds. We all do this for our own reasons. Our recoveries were easy without issues, and we have no regrets. Good luck with your surgery and your new journey!

Back2BnPetite I am in a similar situation to yours. Last doctor visit my cholesterol was slightly high than the specified range. I am considering Mexico. Please share your experience with me.

I'm a 'low' BMI-er. Self pay with comorbs.

First 40lbs have gone reasonably well.

I have now been in a stall for something like 8 weeks. Bouncing up and down by 2lbs. It is infuriating...

But I only have 23lbs or so to get to my personal goal. It is now going reeeeeeeaaaaalllly slowly.

I have no idea when the stall will break, but I have also noticed that approaching the 6 month mark, my sleeve has relaxed a bit. This means I can eat more - which is a worry. Cause if I can eat more, I will and I will really struggle to get the last 20lbs off.

in conclusion, getting the last bit off is a real challenge...

I'm at 34 BMI, and want to lose about 70 lbs. I have my consult in 3 weeks and am hoping I get accepted. I'd rather do the sleeve than the band so keeping my fingers crossed. I'll let you know what they say if you're interested.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
