Hi everyone it's Linda . Haven't seen any post lately, how is everyone? I'm getting antsy now! I'm on the 5th of May. My Dr does not require a diet or anything before surgery. I just have to drink the magnesium drink to clean me out! So I've been eating everything I might miss!!! Please let me know how everyone is doing... Linda

Haven't checked in for awhile! I am almost 65.. RNY on Nov 18th.. Down almost 70 and have no regrets! No complications, in fact, it wasn't a big deal at all. Thank Goodness...

I have now been stuck with the same two pounds for almost 5 weeks now :-(. Oh well, still trusting the plan and surgeon. Only have 22 more to go and he wants it slowed way down now??? What I didn't see coming at my age is how well the fat filled out all the now visible wrinkles! LOL. Guess it's always something huh? Good to hear some Oldie stories from all of us... Feeling awesome and love shopping at Old Navy at this age.....Dyan from Ohio

I am a newbie. Just got my date yesterday. Looking forward to May 10th. Sounds like I may be the elder on this forum. I am 72. It took me 8 months to get all of the tests and Medicare approval. Having the gastric bypass as I had a hernia repaired several years ago and doctor said this was my option. Starting on liquid diet this week for 2 weeks prior to surgery. Expecting new grandbaby in June and need to be able to get down on floor and play with him like I did my others who range in age from 25 to 11. Will keep up with all of your post to prepare me for what is to come.

Hello, I am 57 myself and have considered WLS for about 20yrs now always thinking I can do it myself. I did and gained it back everytime! Now that I am this age I am starting to have health problems so it is time to finally do this. I am very scared but it is something I know I have to do. I have been working with a dietician and we discussed having surgery on the last visit. I am going thru the VA for this so I am just going to start the process. I pray that this is something that God wants for my life, and will walk along side me.

I've been were you are, the fear the uncertainty , is God in this, and a whole lot of what ifs! I'm 8 weeks post and it is the best thing I've ever done! Yes it's challenging but given all the thing I no longer have to deal with it's well worth it no more insulin, no acid reflux sleep apn better

, can say I breath so much better, joint pain better plus the 50 lb weight loss erasures me I can do this. I know this is a Long term track but as aposed to the one I was on this is 100% better good luck you will love your new you!

Hi all! Reading these posts sure helps me realize I am so not in this alone! I am 58 and am 3 weeks post-op. I, too, had started down the road of "health issues because of your age"; I just wasn't happy with hearing that from my PCD! I have lost about 16.5lbs. since I started this journey. It is very slow coming off since I had a very low BMI (31) to begin with. And, most days I am ok with that. I have to remind myself that the REAL reason I had the surgery was to stop the yo-yo dieting and to be aware that I would really have to work at "rewarding" myself if I had a good day, bad day, lonely day, long day, etc. Of course, the best feeling is seeing the scale move and I must say I'll take whatever I can get. My blood pressure is normal for the first time in several years and my knees don't hurt like they did before.

I want to wish each of you good luck in your journey to good health! I'm really excited to see the progress we are all making!☺️

Today I am 6 months post RNY surgery! I will be 65 in a few months.... I sure understand your concerns but my Only regret is that I didn't do this years ago! The entire journey has been fairly easy and I am down 70# and off most of my former meds... Love shopping at Old Navy again! I have 20 more pounds to go but the weight loss has slowed now, but I am fine with it! Stay positive, the first few weeks were not terrible but it becomes a balancing act! Track everything makes it soooo much easier. I use my fitness pal and wear a fit bit wrist band... Who ever would of thought with 4 kids and ten Grandkids I would be doing a 5K on Memorial Day!! Love'n the new me

I hope everyone is doing well. I am almost 8 months out and have lost 70#. I would like to lose 20 more pounds, but I have had so many stalls Im not sure I will meet my goal by the time I'm a year out. I am so thankful for the weight I have lost. I feel so much better and take very little medicine now. I still go to the gym 3 or 4 days a week and love it! I find I can eat a lot more than I could a few months ago. I track everything on My Fitness Pal and try to stay in the 900-1000 calorie range daily. I still do one or two Protein Shakes a day to keep my Protein up. I usually have one for Breakfast and one after I work out. Some people complain about the shakes, but I love them. I hope all of you will keep posting. I love hearing how you are doing. Have a blessed day!

Hi I am just getting started on my journey. need 4 more visits and get all my Dr. referrals etc done. They are shooting for beginning of November for me. I am 65 will be 66 for surgery and am concerned also about this surgery. In my situation I am very inactive because of back pain, neck pain and hip pain so I decided to get this because as I look into my future I see myself in a wheel chair or dead, I am anxious for the surgery but yet a bit afraid. Any support will be appreciated. I do have a few questions if anyone can answer them.

#1 I understand about the "dumping syndrome" when you eat fats and sugar, if you use stivia or a sweetener does it work on you same as regular sugar. #2 what about fruit does the natural sugar in fruit effect you? I have yet to see a nutritionist so was just wondering. Thanks Joanne

Hi, I've just joined! I'm 65 and I've had my first meeting with the Dr., doing the testing and need to schedule the psychiatric evaluation. I want the rest of my life to be active and healthy. If I do nothing I'll have lots of health issues to contend with. I'm glad I found people my age doing and considering the surgery. My family Dr. and bariatric Dr. don't have any concerns about age and surgery. Their information said no increased in health risk for surger and no downside to the amount of weight I can lose. Does this coincide with your experience?

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
