WLS & Thyroid desease

Recommended Posts

Am having open rny on Jan 20 I have hypo thyroid. This makes losing weight really hard. Does anyone else have thyroid and can I still expect to lose regularly with only an occasional plateau?

Hi, I had gastric bypass. Due to a congenital disorder, my body makes no thyroid at all and I take .225 mg of Levothyxrine daily. My weight loss was quite consistent, my surgeon and I were both pleased when I got to my goal weight. I have since gained 8 pounds but don't believe it is thyroid related but putting too much food in my stomach. You can do this and be very successful. Best of luck to you in your weight loss journey!

I asked a question about metabolism because of the Graves at my preop class and the nurse said I would lose weight!.

I also have hypothyroidism.

When I had my sleeve my dosage of levo had to be reduced a little.

I'm taking armor now and find it better.

But like someone else said...try never to miss a dose.

Xx

I am 3 weeks out now and weight loss is really slow :(! I see so many people dropping 10 + lbs a week and here I am slow at only 2-3 a week. Is this typical of thyroid wls patients?

I truly believe that a lot depends on what pre-op diet you did and how long you did it.....you most probably have already lost a lot of glycogen and Water just being on a pre -op diet.

I don't think that the thyroid is going to make that much difference if your levels are checked and are within the limits....if you are worried get your bloods done to check for this.

Good luck.

I'm 5feet 1 inch tall and weighed 225 last Tuesday....scale today said 222. What was your weight and how tall are you...and how much do you weigh now? Sorry to be nosy :)

I am on Synthroid 175mcg once a day.

I am 5'1" at my highest weight I was 298. Then I signed up for the surgery on Jan 1, 2014 I weighed 256. Surgery date I weighed 246.9 Jan 20, 2014. Today is weigh in day and I weighed in at 230 a loss this week of only 2 lbs :(.

Looking at the big picture I lost 15.9 lbs in 3 weeks so although the last 2 weeks have been very low losses when have I ever lost 15.9 lbs in 3 weeks!

I just wish it was a bit higher total per week I just want to see results! I am a very patient person!

I had a set back last week when the removed my staples from my open RNY. There was a large gap in the incision line that had to be glued and retaped. I was then told no treadmill for awhile. Tomorrow I plan on going back on it. Maybe that will give better results for next weigh in!

Thank you so much for all the support!!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
