Thanks A Lot Obamacare!

Recommended Posts

I hope the ACA isn't repealed I've seen a lot of families who were denied coverage in the past finally get coverage. It needs improvement but It's a step forward from what I see. Your mileage may vary but I see more good than bad so far. I see more fear mongering than facts and I'm definitely more of an evidence over anecdote kind of guy.

I do think the thread title has steered us off the original posters real concern and into more politics than bariatric concerns.

So your happy that those families are now getting insurance. ...are you completely ignoring the fact that millions have LOST their insurance. I need an un-fill in a very bad way and my insurance was canceled. I worked hard for my insurance. And now it's gone! The thread title is doing what it's designed to do.... Expose failures in our failed presidents law.

I'm absolutely blaming the government because if it weren't for Obamacare I'd still have my insurance! The ACA set minimum standards for all individual health insurance policies so the ACA FORCED CANCELLELATION OF MY INSURANCE!! The insurance companies are simply complying with the law. Under federal law, the carriers had to accompany the cancellations with an offer of replacement insurance. In many cases, premiums for those policies ARE much higher. People most likely to be offered renewals of relatively cheap, noncomplying policies are young, healthy Americans. If those people do not participate in the health insurance exchanges, the concern is that the premiums charged to those who do enroll – older, and less healthy people– will be insufficient to support future claims. The result would be higher rates for everyone the following year. BIG SHOCK! Just wait until the "employer mandates" kick in next year!! Millions more will be without insurance, allthanks to Obama and the Democrats paranoid desire to "just pass something". Socialism has never worked in any society. It won't work now either.

I simply disagree with your assessment and don't feel this is the right venue for this discussion.

The said truth is millions more people will benefit. I don't ignore the people who've lost their insurance I'm just not assigning blame the same way you are. I used to sell insurance I'm fully aware that the insurance companies were simply taking advantage of people by offering policies that looked effective but were actually horribly designed for any type of catastrophic care. I'm glad the substandard nature of those policies have finally been exposed.

Things are actually worse now. More than 5 million policies have been canceled already. How many people is that? 10 million, more even? They project another 100 million or so may be canceled next year. Meanwhile many peoples cost are going up. And of course the web site doesn't work nor is it secure. So far obamacare has been a 100 percent disaster.

I disagree. 5 million sounds like a lot but it's approximately 5% last time I checked; compared to over 50 million people with pre-existing conditions who can now purchase insurance rather than relying on Medicaid and Medicare exclusively that number doesn't include people who could not afford insurance at all before but could no buy subsidized insurance which still costs less in the long run due to preventative care being accessible.

So I agree the ACA has flaws but I can't agree with hyperbole like "100% disaster" the data seems to indicate it's been an improvement in the nations healthcare system overall despite some harsh specific shortcomings that will need to be addressed.

"They" also say that President Obama was born in Kenya.

"They" also say that President Obama is a secret Muslim.

"They" also say that President Obama is a socialist.

"They" also say that the world is flat.

Bovine Feces. Show me one credible source that says that 100+ million people will have their health care canceled because of the ACA next year.

THAT IS 100% SOCIALISM!! Why should I share the risk? When I went to college no one shared their credits with me. What's the difference? Our very large and very stupid government is leading us into a very dangerous dictatorship. Obama said " They’re going to have to give up paying for things that don’t make them healthier. … If there’s a blue pill and a red pill, and the blue pill is half the price of the red pill and works just as well, why not pay half for the thing that’s going to make you well.” Does that sound like a government that will stay out of your healthcare decisions? That is VERY SCARY! Obamacare is a massive intrusion in the doctor-patient relationship, micromanaging how health care should be delivered to patients. When the government is given this much authority and discretion, it does not result in higher-quality care for patients. Rather, it leads to price controls and one-size-fits-all regulations that misallocate resources and will lead to headaches for doctors and problems for patients trying to access health care. More socialism! To achieve a health care system where patients come first, Congress must not embrace the flawed and failed policies in Obamacare. Instead, Congress must use this opportunity to offer an alternative vision for the future of health care—a future where individuals get better care at lower cost without government controlling the dollars and decisions. If you like your policy you can keep it! Tell that to my freaking lapband!!!

Your blaming the government for a decision made by your insurance company. All insurance is socialist by nature it only works if the insurance pool shares risk the larger the pool the less individual risk; the alternative is to pay for all medical expenses from personal savings. I'm not arguing which system is better I'm just pointing out a basic detail of how insurance works.

You apparently missed the point of the discussion...the government is not supposed to get into the private affairs of citizens. Sadly, our government is not longer for and by the people...

There need to be limits on how much intrusion the government can impose on private lives. A physician-patient relationship is sacred, and the only means by which adequate and quality healthcare can be delivered.

And the forum rules suggest that if a topic or a post is not to your liking, you can simply ignore it and move on.

It's all about choices...time for you to move on?

My point is in this case the barrier between the physician and the patient is the insurance company not the government. The company never should have offered such a poorly constructed policy in the first place or they could have simply changed the policy to meet the new standards. Their blaming the government is just a bait and switch maneuver to take attention off the poor construction if their own insurance policy. As I said it's like getting angry at a speed limit when you're caught driving too fast just because you didn't crash yet it doesn't mean you were safe.

You missed the point completely. Her old insurance had it right and the new insurer(under Obamacare) does not have bariatric benefits. She's angry because she no longer has the benefits she needs. The new policy is meeting the new(Obamacare) standards and standards seem to vary from state to state.

If you feel something is stuck.... Sip on pineapple juice. That will break down anything that may be stuck. I've also tried meat tenderizer with Water. Vitamin Shoppe sells papaya enzyme.... Same thing as meat tenderizer. It will break down anything stuck. They work great for anyone as a digestive aide!!

Then feel free to leave this discussion. I didn't force you to get involved, sir. I have a major problem here and i can't see my dr. If there was no ACA I could simply go get an un-fill.

I guess since you didn't take the time to read I'll enlighten you. My band is waaaaay too tight. For lunch I spent a half hour in the bathroom trying to yack up Tomato Soup. I NEED an un-fill and my dr won't see me because I no longer have insurance (all because of obamacare) and I can't afford to pay out of pocket. So. Kindly remove yourself from my discussion or give me some frickin advice that will help me.

That isn't what she said she said her insurance was cancelled a decision made by her insurance company. Nothing in the ACA stops her from purchasing a plan with Bariatric coverage. The minimum standards don't vary just the individual states participation in setting up an exchange so it's easier to find and compare available coverage. Which would again be a state issue not an ACA issue as ruled by the Supreme Court.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
