Lap Band To Sleeve

Recommended Posts

From the things I have heard is that there tends to be a lot of slippage & erosion with the band. Also the hassle of constantly having to go in for fills or to have some taken out.

I was banded 6 years ago..I never had the feeling of being full or restricted, even when I had the fill. The only sensation I felt was vomiting up my food when my food would go down.when I ate chicken or steak or rice. I did not lose with the band..and my dr does not perform this surgery anymore due to slippage, erosion, etc . Too many revisions from land to sleeve.

I was banded in 2005, went from 246 to my lowest 184 in 3 years....not too long after that, I started having problems...eventually in 2010, because of my band slippage, it was removed. Now i'm up 20 pounds from where I began with the band. Starting over, and looking forward to a stable, permanent tool to help me get healthly and remain healthy.

thanks for asking,

Numenow!

I was banded in July '07. I never found the "sweet spot" with the band. In order for me to feel full my band wound up being overfilled. I would throw up a lot because food got stuck. This caused esophogeal dialation and my pouch to become distended. The vomiting caused my band to become prolapsed. Once the band prolapsed it caused me severe heartburn requiring me to be on prescription medicines for over three years. Medical tests I had performed earlier this year revealed the position on the band was interfering with my esophagus. I had my band unfilled in August of this year. On October 25th, I had my lap band removed and the sleeve performed. Since that time, I have had zero heartburn and doing great.

I never lost all the weight wI wanted to lose with the band either. By lapband standards I was considered a success because I had lost 50% of my excess weight.

I was banded in 2006. Weighed about 220 and went down to 165. I struggled entire time with band because they would have to fill and unfill frequently but I was glad to have my weight down. Finally in 2013, the band caused such bad problems, I couldn't even lay down to sleep. They removed the band, removed the scar tissue and repaired a hernia and put in a GASTRIC SLEEVE August 2013. I am now 3 months later and have lost no weight. In fact, my weight is going up daily. My hunger is ravenous and nothing I eat ever makes me feel full. HOW IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE A SLEEVE AND BE STARVING AND TO HAVE ZERO RESTRICTION???

Let me throw my $.02 in. While there are lapband failures lapband patients can revise to other surgeries. The sleeve appears to be a good option for those who did not find success with the band. The band is not out by any means.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
