Surgery in the Summer

Recommended Posts

Ok - I have a bizarre question. If you have surgery in the summer - is it hard to be out in the sun and stay hydrated? I am thinking about pool days with my kids and am getting ready to start the 6 month pre-diet - so that would put me close to June - just in time for summer!

I had my surgery in May. Didn't find it hard to stay hydrated at all this summer. Just kept sipping in between meals. After a couple of months, the ability to drink normally returned. Have to time it so that I give it at least 30 min after a meal before drinking. There really isn't enough room.

Don't want to frighten you off here, and maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't be caught dead anywhere near a pool. Or a bathing suit. Rapid weight loss does weird things to the skin. Like my inner thighs. I've lost and gained many times in my life, but I have never lost in my inner thighs before. Right now they look like melting candle wax. Hoping that exercise will help firm them, but there might be a body lift in my future.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't take the 56 lbs I've lost to have less sagging skin though. I'll deal with it. But right now Bermuda shorts are the way to go.

Good luck on your journey. It's going to be amazing!

I had surgery June 11th. I didn't have any issues staying hydrated at all. I constantly carried Water or crystal lite everywhere I went. I didn't have any problems after surgery drinking, even fast, large amounts. I could drink the same way that I did pre surgery. Some people are not like that tho, so it all depends on your body. The only issues I had was finding sugar free drinks on the go. I just made sure I always had sugar free drink mixes with me, and made my own, or just had water. And I couldn't swim for the first 6-8 weeks after surgery. So that was hard for me to stay out of the water for my kids.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
