Why am i not losing weight?

Recommended Posts

I feel your pain. Was sleeved 9/16, lost 22 lbs in the first two weeks (8 of which was IV fluids I picked up in the hospital) then stalled. It's been 3.5 weeks since I've lost anything and I'm getting so frustrated. Getting 60-80 gm of Protein, keeping carbs low, 700-900 cal a day and exercising 4-5 times a week. At my weight I should be able to eat 2200 cal just to maintain!

Pre sleever here, and I do not understand one thing. I see all of you losing weight, and than you have the stall for a few weeks but you do not gain and adding up the numbers by the end of the month you are still losing. Honestly, when was the last time you lost weight or lived your life without gaining any?

To the OP, in 24 days you have lost 14 pound! That is 0.6 pound a day!! That is amazing to me...

I think you ladies are very impatient. We all got here due to YEARS of unhealthy life style. You realistically can not expect your body to lose it all in 3-4 months...

Good luck to all of you with your healthy weight loss!

First of all I don't think it's your place to judge anyone here. We all know how long it took to get this size and we all took action to get the help we need to loose it. But when you get sleeved, the weight comes off fast at first, I was loosing 2lbs here and 3lbs there and then it halted. With all the struggles a person goes through right after surgery, it kinda puts you into a why????? Mode. Why did it stop, what am I doing wrong??? This web site I belief it for information and knowledge from people who have been through it and can inform you if your doing something wrong or not. Kinda of a place where you can get support and help when you need it. I know it's going to take time for it to lose but I am here to get the support from people who have been through it so I know that I am not doing something wrong. You have the right to speak your mind but please don't judge me because you really don't know me or what the past month has been like for me. Good luck on your surgery and weight loss. :)

I am coming up on 3 years post surgery... I am now only ONE pound away from goal. Talk about stalls. If you lose 10 pounds a month, that is heaven. There will be stalls and maybe lots of them for some of us. I understand we all want the fat off NOW! But if you had 85% of your stomach cut out, and are eating 700 cals a day... it will come off. Maybe sooner, maybe later... this is a good time to work on your mindset... this process is not over after you get the weight off, its just starting! You need to keep vigilant during maintenance as well. The three week stall is a bi**h, why would the body do that to us? It is swollen, it is hurt, it is losing its income drastically, it does not want you to die! Give it a break, it wont last forever.... and by the way, 3.9 pounds a week would NEVER be counted as a slow loser. You peeps will get there, in fact the time will fly. Some will lose faster than others, but it feels just as good to reach goal, at 6 months or 3 years. Relax a little.

I think my concern is what do I do to break the stall. Everyone says it will start coming off again, but do I just need to keep Doug what I am doing and wait or change what I am doing. There isn't much I can change at this point since I am so limited with a puréed diet. Also it would be hard to eat much less or much more. I just feel stuck. I happy about what I have lost and that I am not gaining, but just want to get back on the losing side of things!

I found that I lost inches even when the scale didn't move. Consistent practice of good diet, lots of Fluid, and time. Many don't consider it a stall unless there is no change for at least 3 weeks. Trite sounding but true, you will get there

I really should take some measurements. I haven't done that. Might make me feel better when I have stalls.

Really, just do what your doing. Time is the answer. I have had stalls that lasted for many weeks...i was following orders, it just takes time. This is a NORMAL event. Like I said above, the body needs to heal, reduce swelling, adjust sometimes. There is NO way you will stay the same forever eating 700 cals a day! Wait it out. If you must, drink more Water, take more walks, do something you love, measure in other ways. It is common to lose inches when the scale is not moving. I did this myself 3 years ago, and have seen hundreds of others do it in the meantime, take my word for it. Follow directions, and let your sleeve do the rest.

I agree... plus losing it slowly has its advantages. .. less left over skin in the long run and better chance of keeping it off!

I absolutely hate this stall crap. I knew about it. I read all I found here about it. And yet, its happening and I still feel like I'm failing my sleeve utterly. It's a horrible mindgame I'm playing with myself that I'm trying to get out of (its not working so far!).

I know I can't possibly hope to keep up the 20 pounds in 2 weeks stuff (oh how I wish) but right now... bleah. At least I still do feel like I'm losing inches if not weight, at least in the way I feel myself carrying my body.

Good luck everyone :)

I had surgery on October 2, and at first I lost 10 prep and then another 14 post op but then nothing...... Can't understand how I can be only eating 700 calories a day and nothing is coming off!!!! I am back to work, working on improving my Protein intake which was only 30 or so a day up to 60 yesterday and working on drinking more Water but I am stuck at this weight. It's really discouraging after all I have went through. Everyone tells me to be patient but after over two weeks of nothing lost, how am I to be patient???? Any thoughts???? :(

This is actually very normal as LisaDM has stated. Your body also has gone through a shock and thinks it's being starved. There is another topic and covers this too. There's an article you can find about how your muscles are holding on to water. I had the same issue getting enough calories in. Protein is critical to keep your body from losing muscle and hair. My wellness doc would like me to get 100 grams a day of protein. I've only hit it a few times since my surgery. My nutritionist has recommended animal sources of protein for now first in my tiny tummy. cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna, canned chicken, fish, ground turkey are just a few things that I focus on getting in to hit the protein levels of 90 g's a day. I have stalled too, but I'm going by my clothes. I've dropped a size and I have a ton of energy. I still weigh myself daily and wish I wasn't obsessed with the stupid number. I used to ignore my weight, now I can't stop thinking about it. Lol. I just read an article by a very fit and healthy person who stated she never goes by the scale. She believes in the tape measure. The more muscle we have the more we can weigh over fat. Anyway....it WILL come off. There is no way it can't. Stay encouraged that you're taking care of you! :-). That's what is most important. You gotta feel better than how we used to eat. Best wishes! Lori

I am quite surprised about your "first of all...not your place...judge" comment. In no way I was judging you or anybody else, if you read my comment again I said your weight loss is amazing as it is and just try to be patient. I know that is what I will try to do when my time will come.(And I know it will not be easy)

No hard feeling though, I wish you the best!

Well, I stopped weighing myself for a few days because I was just getting obsessed and frustrated. Decided to weigh myself this afternoon and I am down 2 lbs! So just stick with what you know and the weight loss will pick back up! :-)

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
