who drinks soda occasionally?

Just wondering if anyone drinks soda and if so. How much how far out are you. Im 2 months out. And had a few sips the other day for nausea. Didnt go too bad other than burping a lot. Does it really stretch the stomach?

I said good bye to soda when I had my surgery 07/11/2013. I gave it up. From everything I read or talked to doctor they all said the same thing. Not good for you and can stretch your stomach. I figured I would not risk it. I must say I am 3.5 months out and it is lot easier. I craved it so bad the first month. Not so hard now.

On occasion. I quit cold turkey at surgery...stayed off of it about 5 months...had a death in my family in August...starting drinking it again (tastes awful), but drinking it anyway... trying to get off of it again - very hard now.

I drink them as treats. If I haven't eaten an hour before or don't plan on eating an hour after, I'll indulge in one. I drink them very slowly though. I also do a beer every now and then (which isn't great on the diet but, guilty pleasure especially during the holidays). As long as you do them slow and know your own limits, I was told it's not that bad.

My surgeon allows diet soda in moderation 3 months post-op. It's tough to have time to drink a diet soda if you are getting in all of your Protein and Water, but I indulge in one maybe once or twice a month--either diet ginger ale or diet coke. I haven't had any issues. I drink one small can usually.

Surprisingly, even at four years out, anything carbonated still makes me really, really uncomfortable.

I actually quit diet soda 2 years ago when I was considering lap band (which I never got) and I never went back to it. I also quit fast food back then and once you've gone a couple of months without those two major vices, they taste HORRIBLE if you try to go back. LOL. They're both out of my life for good...and I'm glad I got rid of them before surgery (don't even have my sleeve date yet). This is hard enough without heaping withdrawal on it as well.

if i crave soda i just let it go flat before i drink, personally i think it tastes better flat anyway.

My doctor allows soda in moderation as long my sleeve can tolerate it. I didn't have any for the first 9 months. Now at a year out I will have one once in awhile. I prefer the fountain soda as it seems to have less carbonation.

I was surprised how easy it was for me to give up soda post op! Not even a temptation to me. However, I had a big orthopedic surgery 10/15, and for three days afterwards the only thing I wanted to drink was diet ginger ale. The good news is the desire passed, and I don't seem to be worse off for it.

I think soda would be an entry drug for me,so I said good bye to soda May 2 and have no regrets.

I had a little last week. I was 8 weeks post op. We were flying for a trip, I was having anxiety and my stomach was all upset. In the past crackers in my carry on and a Coke purchased after security was always how I handled it. I had my husband drink half, then shook out some bubbles. It went down fine, and I have not craved it or had any since.

It's funny that I was given Coke for anxious stomach and Ginger ale for vomiting as a child. The scary part is I still seem to need it as an adult. And even worse, we have carried on the tradition with our kids.

I always drank diet coke. No Water, 2+ liters of Diet Coke a day easily. Best stuff ever and I don't like water unless I'm really hot and sweaty. I have not found anything, anything that quenches my thirst like it.

I'm feeling better without it but would love to end the day with a diet coke If I have te top off for a few hours and it gets flat what's the harm in drinking it. Too scared now to do it. Anyone doing it?

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
