Preop diet question... 6 days to surgery....

Recommended Posts

I am on a preop diet 2 weeks before my surgery oct 24th. I know this is to shrink my liver. I can have Protein Drinks and some thinks like hot Cereal low fat or fat free dressing with salad, low fat or fat free puddings and eggs and some cheese.... Just "nothing that ever had eyes" hahahahaha so no meat! Anyway, I wanted to know band to sleeve revision ... Is everyone in this struck diet?

Also I am trying to mentally prepare. How much pain can I except when I am in recovery?

Has anyone had any complications/leaks and are you happy or regrets? I would love to here from both people who just had revision and tho use more than a year out and have successfully kept weight off!

Oh I am staying 2 days per my doc!

Thanks so much this sight has really been an amazing help to me. Don't sugar coat! :)

I'm 6 weeks out and have had NO complications whatsoever. My incisions healed within a week and I'm 36lbs down so ABSOLUTELY NO REGRETS!! Good luck! I think for most the diets are dr specific. I had to do the liquid diet too...it SUCKED!!

I'll be honest and say I hated my preop diet. I was exhausted, angry, and felt miserable. But surgery came and went and I recovered nicely (very little pain minus some lodged gas) and I haven't looked back.

I hated the preop diet. But now I feel great 2 months out, and no known complications so far. Seems like things are healing well.

My surgery was Oct 7. I was on a liver shrinking diet for 2 weeks, then just Clear liquids the day before. In surgery, the stomach around my band was inflamed and there were some adhesions to my liver and diaphragm with a little bit of bleeding I am told. I had really bad pain across my chest and boobs the first night from the CO2 (and yes, I was tested for heart problems), but pain medication helped and the more I walked, the faster it got better. Did not use GasX or such. I used my pain medication as much as I needed, I don't think there is much value in trying to tough it out, better to rest and heal. Eventually just a sore spot where my old port was (and where they pulled my stomach out), but that damn port always bothered me. At home I found my pain got worse by afternoon and I would use some medication then, and sometimes at bedtime, for about a week.

No other problems, except it's hard to get Water and Proteins in unless I start right when I get up. If you have the time, throw some Protein like chicken or fish and a leafy green into the freezer for when you get into the puree stage. Stop and Shop really did me in!

I'm 5 weeks out down 34lbs. I had a one week pre-op diet, with just shakes-nothing else. I remember with my band it was 2 weeks prior, only shakes. All surgeons are different. No regrets! Pain was tolerable. I took pain meds the first 24hrs after surgery and then stopped. I was sore, but didn't feel I needed medication. I have had zero, zip, zilch issues. Gotta work at getting Fluid and Protein in the first week like its a full time job! I had a small hernia repair and have not had heartburn since! I can't tell you how wonderful that has been! Oh, I have had one issue I guess, I'm now sensitive to milk, lactose intolerant. Only with milk, not all dairy. If I take a lactaid pill beforehand, it's all good. Best wishes for your recovery!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
