Hello all! I have been lurking for at least a month so I finally decided to join the group. I'm happy to be a fellow December sleever! My date is 12/16. I started the process in April and finished up the 6 month requirements with my PCP in Sept. Of course' date=' there were some delays but insurance approval was received last week. I had to put off surgery till December because we already had a family vacation planned for Disney World during Thanksgiving week. Let the stress, anxiety, fun times begin!!![/quote']

Great date!!!

I think it's a great date too! Woo hoo for the 12/16 gals! (and everyone else of course, but I'm a little biased toward 12/16 :)

I'm excited to see there are so many in December. I sorta thought this group might be small with some not wanting to go through Christmas on soft or puréed food!

I was told December was pretty popular since some folks have time off - especially us folks in education. I give my last exam on 12/12 and don't need to be back in the classroom until 1/19. Hopefully that will be plenty of time to recuperate

I have had this 12/16 date since September, hopefully that means I'll be the first surgery in the morning! I must admit I am getting more excited everyday!

I was also told December was popular because everyone is trying to get in before the new year = new deductible/out of pocket.

I would never be able to afford it if I had to wait until January.

That was the great thing about scheduling in September - I got my choice of date and time. Going to be his first surgery of the day.

They (the hospital here) only do Versed, which is a twilight sleep. You're still awake and talking, but you have no recollection of it. I'm just stubborn, and if I'm going to get a procedure done that I'm going to be awake for anyway, I'd rather remember it lol Also, I googled Versed. I'm sure you can imagine what results popped up lol

Hi Kat, another question. Did you still need someone to drive you home since you weren't put under?

Hi Kat, another question. Did you still need someone to drive you home since you weren't put under?

No driver needed! They were really stunned when I was adament about not wanting drugs. They said only one person did that before, and only because he didn't have a ride home. They joked and said they were going to put my picture on the wall lol While I was waiting for the procedure, they wheeled in another lady who did opt for the drug and man, she was out of it. It made me way more confident with my decision :) I know I won't have that option with surgery of course, but if I can avoid it I do.

Thanks so much! I'm usually hard to numb and pain control is hard for me too. On the other hand, my mother shouldn't be driving but she would probably be fine driving if I'm telling her where to go.

Things to think about!

Oh, I'm very difficult to numb up and get pain under control. I have some sort of super resistance to it, and I rarely get into situations where I need it (only childbirth). The only part of the procedure that's rough is when you have to "swallow" the camera. After that, it's just really strange and a bit uncomfortable. He was done in 5 minutes :)

Good to know from someone who literally feels my pain!

Had my gallbladder removed last year (which will be sort of similar to the sleeve) and that was BAD. Also, had a tiny pimple sized basal cell carcinoma removed from my upper chest. It took 2 vials to numb it up. I had so much in me, I was shaking all over! Then that tiny thing hurt for weeks.

Nonetheless, looking forward to suffering through for this surgery!!

Thanks for the imput.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
