I don't know, I think that this procedure is so new that Dr.’s don't have much to go on In terms of weight loss and complication data.

Dr.’s are pretty much using us" the ones interested in plication" to practice on. And as you can read on most blogs

only a small percentage of people are happy with it. But, in the long run they don't feel the same way as they did initially.

The US is on trials until 2013 to see if this is safe to use as a weight loss surgery procedure..

And the reports overseas are not very accurate, because they don't have the resource to fallow the people who have had plication done.

So, for the time being we have all been their lab rats to practice on. This is just my opinion.

US trials will NOT make me change my opinion on plication, for the better or worse. Look at US "safety" and Phen-Fen. What a joke. It's all about the right person getting their palms greased. On the other hand, having lived all over the world, just because other countries do not have FDA type standards does not make them less safe. Sometimes the FDA's feet dragging has led to many deaths because someone needed a medicine that the FDA wouldn't approve because they were not finished with their tests. The FDA says that the person may die without their tests, but if the person is going to die anyway, where is the safety in that if the drug is their last chance?!

Most days I am happy with my plication, some days though not so much. I was feeling pretty bad last week, but turns out it's something that has nothing really to do with the plication. I know that it hasn't been "everything to everyone", but I think it's something that everyone needs to make their mind up about. It IS good to have the negative info out there, to help us make up our minds, but if someone decides to do it and is happy, then that's pretty good evidence too. All weight loss surgeries (and all surgeries period) were experimental at one point. Part of me thinks it is interesting to be a lab rat. Part of me doesn't like it. Time will tell, but even with "tried and true" weight loss surgeries some people have failures-hence all the revision surgeries out there if you look at other boards. I am sorry you had an appalling experience, and hope you can figure out something (surgery or non-surgery) that helps you in the future!

I'm loving my plication today! Got full really fast on small amounts. still at about 1100 calories today. But I feel great!

Yeah, I've mostly been happy with mine, too, and am glad I made this decision. I've lost 42 lbs with it so far and still get full most of the time pretty quickly. Not only that, but it has given me the jump start I needed to break through the mental barrier I was having to eating right and exercising. I don't feel like a lab rat at all. I did as much research as was available at the time and still feel that it was the safest surgery out there. So what if the weight loss is slower? It's working for me. Sorry some others are not as happy with it or have had bad experiences, but I'm sure that is the same with all of the weight loss surgeries.

I've had a complete lack of complications - ie I feel pretty much normal and barely have any restriction. Whilst I can't binge (this wasn't really a problem for me), I'm not exactly eating like a sparrow like the VSGers seem to! mellow.gif

Why have you been sometimes unhappy with your plication?

Why have you been sometimes unhappy with your plication?

-Anne

I am still relatively new to the game: will be two months out in a few more days. I had a looong stall early on (two weeks in) and then stalled again two weeks later. I have been frustrated at the stalls, but that may just be me, and I might be that way with any WLS, who knows. I have also had some pain lately, but am working on diagnosing and getting past that. Some days I wish I had the sleeve, due to the stalls and slow weight loss. That being said, I wanted somewhat slow weight loss in order to give my body time to recover (less loose skin, more health in my opinion) and I didn't want to lose part of my stomach, so.... I think part of my unhappiness sometimes stems from seeing others on here who have not had successful results, and feeling scared that I might end up like that. It really just depends on the day, and that is just part of who I am. That being said, I am losing weight, I have always felt restriction, and have never had any nausea. I am almost 1/4 of the way to my 110 lb weight goal, so I try to focus on that. I guess time will tell.

TP,

Is it possible for your doctor to just go in there and tighten you up? I have read somewhere that a couple of people have had that done. Would you consider it, or are you just 'done' with plication?

Well, I have been pretty vocal about my slow weight loss. Im 3 months out and have only lost about 37 lbs. Some days the restriction is full on, other days, like today, I barely feel anything. I dont know why some days are more restricted than others. Most times, more often then not, Im crying over slow weight loss and other days.. well, Im happy about things so far. HIT OR MISS..What helped me was looking at pics of me prior to my weight loss and pics of me now. I had 80lbs to go and I am half way there in three months. Well, not to bad all things considered, but I wanted to lose at least 15 per month so in my opinion, im behind about 8 lbs. But, at least there is loss. I remember for years one month turning into the next, no loss and in fact weight gain.

Im done with being negative because whats done is done.. Cant go back.. just gonna think positive and DO MY PART, MEANING Water AND EXERCISE. I realized way in the first few weeks, this really is ONLY TOOL. I watch what I eat more now than ever. Still, I would have to say, no regrets..

In no way, absolutely no way do i feel like a lab rat. Hell, I remember in 2001 wanting and researching LapBand. People didnt have long term clinical studies and it was considered experimental then. Soooo... at the least I am a LAB DIVA!

Hi chowchows, sorry, I only just noticed your question today when someone else replied to this thread. For the moment I'm done with plication - it just doesn't work as far as I'm concerned. I've still not fully paid off my plication so I'm holding off doing anything right now. Sarah Elsekhawy (over on the VST board) got revised from GPS to VSG this week. She was a year out from her GPS and it just didn't work for her either.

Sarah posted 2 days after getting sleeved and she was sounding really well. She said that to that point VSG didn't hurt more than GPS.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
