Bummer.....I am shedding.

Recommended Posts

I am losing more and more hair each day. I am hitting my 60 gm of protien and it is still coming out. How far does it go before stopping?? I used to have lots of hair and bounce and now it is flat. :help:

Thanks for listening.

Are you taking your Multivitamins too? sometimes insufficient trace minerals may play apart ( can't remember which ones though). I don't know when you had your surgery but some people report hair problems after having major surgery, anaesthetics.

I don't remember ever having this problem so I can't really advice how long it may last- just know I have heard quite a few people reporting that it happens

Man can I relate. Im having the exact same problem. Evidently after 6 months it should start coming back in, or so Im told. Keep your fingers crossed.

You may want to make sure that you are taking a high dosage level of Vitamin D. I could not find a high IU level Vitamin d product at regular vitamin stores, but my doctor's office recommended www.bariatricadvantage.com - they carry products especially formulated for bariatric patients. They have a Dry Vitamin D (goes down easy) at 5000 IU. The prices are very reasonable (60 caps for approx. $8) - I started these right after my surgery and so far have not had any problems with my hair or skin.

Its not just about Protein, its about nutrition in general. B Vitamins, zinc and Iron are all important for hair too. That's where some good carbs in your diet are useful.

I havent shed from the scalp but have had tons and tons of hair breakage, due to probably not getting enough of everything, it seems to have improved now, but of course when you've got long hair, it will take several years for the thickness and smoothness I had to return. Now I have a gazillion little corkscrew curls (broken hairs and new hairs coming through) sticking out through my basically straight hair.

My shedding seems to have slowed and almost stopped. I take a Niacin pill each day and that seems to be helping. Most of us have suffered with the Hair loss, but no balding.

Give Rogaine a try. It's been a miracle drug for me since I lost about 1/3 of my hair due to thyroid problems. I apply it all over my scalp morning and night. My hair is now as thick as it was when I was a teenager.

I think that it may be more than a vitamins/minerals issue, more your body adjusting to a new nutritional state. When I did Atkins, I took real cares to cover myself nutritionally, and was taking tons of Protein, but still lost hair; I think that any time there's an abrupt decrease in the calorie intake, including carbs, there'll be some Hair loss. And that will gradually reverse itself as your body adjusts.

Thanks for listening.

Another factor to keep in mind is anethesia, and general trauma to the body.

I've hit my Protein + 95% of the time, take a multi, folic acid, Calcium, Q10, etc daily, and am still losing hair. Not as much as I was, but my hairloss started around month 4, and I'm now in month 11 and it still comes out noticeably.

I used to have the stylist thin my hair, especially in the summer, becaue it was unruly/unmanageably thick. I used to have to buy hair clips & barettes for thick hair. Now I use regular hair clips, and they fot loosely.

I hope this stops sometime soon. :)

Its scary isnt it? I've got no part widening or hairline issues so for ages I noticed nothing, but one layered haircut and there's no volume at the ends of my hair anymore.

And its dry dry dry. Really damaged, I'm spending a fortune to get it back in shape.

Yep, I have dryness too. I've had to switch from "for oily" or "for normal" to "ultra hydrating", and even after a hydrating wash & condition, I still get frizzy. My hair never used to do that. It used to lay very nicely.

And my curls have changed. I've heard anesthesia can do this. They've gone from loose spirals, to flat waves. But only in some places, leaving me with really uneven curls that I now have to get permed if I want uniformity.

I have been banded for 5 1/2 months. I saw my hairdresser today for a cut and highlights, and she told me that my hair is actually stronger and thicker now than before. I have used Nioxin about once a week, and that's it. And taking my Vitamins and eating Protein.

She told me that she thinks the regular hair trims (every 4-6 weeks) and the color on my hair (highlights all over) is making it very strong. We use Paul Mitchell color with beeswax. I just wanted to give everyone that tip. Maybe you should try some color to help heal your hair. Nioxin works well too, but when I used it every day it dried my hair out. Now it's just once a week. If you have any questions, let me know.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
