Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

I ordered a chef salad yesterday from Steak Out to bring for lunch today. I forgot it. Waaah. My stomach is growling and that salad sounds soooooo good :(

Back on strict Atkins. This is what I anticipated.. Atkins can help me lose it, the band helps me maintain. I've been eating random stuff (not all low-carb) and I have stayed at 268.6lbs all week. So if I can stop the carbs some more, lose weight, band will help me maintain. Darn it, I need my excited gung ho will powered self to wake up.

OK

Poll of the week...

dbf and I are planning a night away, no kids - Just us. I am making a little package to take with us but... i want to put something to drink in there... wine...something good/pretty, not just bring a bottle of vodka which would just make me happy...

what would you all personally drink as a nice adult night?

Jennifur..On an adult night, I would fix a nice slushy Red Raspberry Lemonade Crystal Light, with a twist.. shaken, not stirred.

Ok, Ok, so I'm boring!!

I'm not a big fan of alcohol, but I've found 2 things I like now..

Dirty martini (which is vodka so nah).

And then Blackberry Merlot. It's like bottled candy! And it's wine. I think we get Arbor Mist, gas station and cheap LOL. But it's very good.

I'm having port pain..like muscle pain..when I bend over or lift.

I can't think of anything I've done to strain it.

When I first noticed it was after eating quite a bit. I was really hungry (I saw my lap band doctor yesterday..didn't get a fill..everything was fine but I didn't eat more than a cup a Soup all day) when I ate dinner.< /p>

I ate a steak salad..almost all of it. That's when my port area started hurting. Now today it's worse when I laugh, lift or bend.

This is weird..anyone ever have something like this and what did you do to make it quit hurting?

Jenn~ I love love love champagne. It is not band friendly, but I know some people are still drinking diet sodas (raise your hand if this applies to you). So, if you tolerate soda or carbonation, I would vote for champagne. But, I wanna know what else is in the package (hehe). Or a nice bottle of Pinot...what food are you bringing...or is food not what this night is all about???

I don't drink carbonation much anymore, since I mostly drink Water and SF kool aid.. But when I go to Tunica (once every other month?) I have my shirley temples!

And I had champagne at my wedding.

I don't think one time hurts anything. Some people experience pain from carbonation, it doesn't hurt me though. I wouldn't drink it every day though! I can see the logic of how it would stretch the pouch out eventually.

I can't do carbonation or afraid to try. I was addicted to diet coke before lb, and my skin was a mess, i was a mess, so I just tell myself I can't so I won't.

So that brings another question... who can do carbonation?

Just curious... and trying to make a distraction to my/our very stressful week.

Pam... I can't tell what is in the package... might change people's opinion of me.... LOL... I will tell I have some nice massage oil and some other lotions and such...

no food, I want to go out, we never get to do that.

Off to pre op----fun, fun, fun.

Jenn---Is the goal to seduce him, or show him a good time? If so what does HE like? Yeah, don't tell us what is in the basket....either we would relate too well, and decide we were all wickedly kinky....or we might just get jealous and cry!!! But we love ya anyway!!

Check in when I get back.

I was a Diet Coke addict until April 9, 2007. I have not had any carbonation since April 10th. On every single page of the nutrition sheets we received it says.. ABSOLUTELY NO CARBONATED beverages I obey my doctor's rules and my nutritionist's rules. I know everyone has different rules, but I just go by what my people say. Works for me and I don't want to tempt fate!!!

I have not had any soda, diet or otherwise, since March 22, 2007. I can not argue how my complexion has cleared and how well I sleep. I know it is not good for you, but I used to swear that I thought Diet Coke was like oxygen. Now...I miss it from time to time...a coke looks good...but so does my face!

It's a rare occasion I drink carbonated drinks, like I said :)

I NEVER liked diet drinks, so I have no temptations there, and looking at the nutritional facts on normal cokes has kept me in line 99% of the time. I haven't had a Mt. Dew since.. 1 month pre-op. That was my crack. I actually crave normal coke once in a while, but haven't died to have a Mt. Dew.

One day I was choking, dad had a Mt. Dew, only thing around.. I took one sip of it to stop choking. It was not as good as it use to be, and I didn't want to drink more than I had to. So that was nice.

Blackberry Merlot, not sure if that's carbonated? When I drink it, I don't see/feel bubbles. I think it's not..

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
