Roadside shrines

Recommended Posts

in the last few years there has been an increase in them here in australia as well, i can't see why cos that is what we have cemetaries for you go there and and pay your respects after all that is where their remains are, there has been a roadside tribute near my house for at least 3 years yet in all that time i go past many times i have never seen anyone there and no-one i know has seen anyone there, if they have to do it then i feel local laws should put a time limit on them

This is a very interesting topic and one that I've never heard discussed until today, but one that I think about whenever I see one.

I think the shrines are grim, macabre, distracting, and depressing.

That being said, anything that assists in making a grieving loved one feel comforted should supercede how I feel about the shrine.

What is even more tacky is car memorials. Especially in cars where the car is all pimped out with new rims and a sub-wolfer. I get really irritated when that type of car not only blasts ear-piercing music but also reminds me how fleeting life is with a depressing memorial. I never feel like it is very genuine and I always think it's more of a fad or a fashion statement.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
