Question about feeling full in chest after eating

Recommended Posts

For those further out, do you still get the full feeling in your chest or does this change with time? I am about 4 weeks out and It feels so different from feeling full in in my tummy....and, oddly, my tummy doesn't really feel full at all (just my chest hurts). I am eating slow and very small amounts of soft foods. Just wondering if this is how I'm always going to feel (because i don't like it much)!

I had surgery 9/11 and I'm asking the same question? Also I have heartburn after eating every time ????

I also had surgery 9/11 but have not felt the fullness in the chest. Only the air that comes after eating that I dislike.

I'm just over 4 months and I still feel full in my chest not my stomach. Its not as uncomfortable as it was, I was going to say unless I overdo it but I just realized I guess I have not been overdoing it lately. A week or so ago I started feeling like I could eat more but I still eat the same amount usually. Maybe I am just getting used to the full feeling but it doesnt really bother me now.

I only get heartburn on occasion, I take Prilosec everyday and add the generic form of Zantac as needed.

Things do get better.

Wow, I'm hoping it gets somewhat better later on. Or guess I will have to get used to it.

I have that feeling also and its not that bad but it feels like a lump in my chest that has to move for me to feel better. I am 4 weeks out also.

I'm trying my best to be patient with this whole process, but some days are difficult. I wish some more people would chime in on this question :)

It gets better. I am almost 1year out. At about 6 months I felt normal again after learning to recognize when I was full before I actually was full. I think it was gas but I say hang in there it does get better. I was sleeved 10/10/12

Hey all. I would suggest being careful of the "full in the chest " feeling. I'm 4 mos. out from a lapband to sleeve revision and my Dr. told me that the full in my chest feeling meant the food was backing up in my esophagus. Since learning this, I pay much closer attention to my "full" feeling. Also, he fixed a hiatal hernia while doing the revision. So, all of this has helped me to eat slower and set things aside, trying to notice how food moves through my system. Best of luck.

I'm four weeks out and the only time I get that feeling in my chest is when I don't eat slow enough...otherwise it's okay

I had my surgery Sept. 6th and I also get the feeling in my chest. The doctor also told me it was backing up into my esophagus. I know it is because I eat too fast - therefore eat just a little too much. Eyes are bigger than my stomach!!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
