Liver problems after WLS

Recommended Posts

Anyone have any problems with their liver after surgery?

I had some blood work taken due to recent pain on my right side. Results show I have something abnormal. I will be checking in with the doctor tommorow.

Anyone else have any similar symptoms?

Oh no! I'm only four months and everything seems ok so far.

I hope they figure it out soon. Good luck and let us know.

My liver was throwing enzymes before I had the surgery, but since the surgery all of my blood tests have come out within normal limits. I hope the same thing happens for you! Good luck! :)

I thought I had liver problems but it turned out to be my gallbladder. Gallbladder problems & gallbladder removal are VERY common after our surgery. The pain is also on the upper right side area & sometimes extends to the back & shoulders. I just had mine out 3 weeks ago. Good luck.

There might be a transient spike in liver enzymes post surgery but they (by definition) go away. Serum Bilirubin elevation, however, certainly could be from the 'ol gall bladder. Also, it could be some liver issue unrelated to the sleeve...

PS, generally liver problems improve after surgery.

I had a fatty liver before surgery, they took a biopsy during surgery and found that it was chronically inflamed........PCP and Surgeon think both issues will get better with weight loss.....and the odd twinges on the right side have subsided since a couple weeks post op (I had my gallbladder out years ago).....I had some bloodwork done last week and interested in the liver results........good luck, and please let us know what the doctor has to say.....best wishes, --p

I had high temperature over the weekend and going for an ultrasound today. My symptoms are similar to what yours were and seem to indicate gallbladder issues of some sort. We're you able to delay surgery with antibiotics at all?

I actually went to the ER because the pain was so bad. They tried giving me antibiotics and sending me home but I ended up back in the hospital two days later having it removed anyways. They said I had a lot of gallstones & that it was pretty inflamed. :(

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
