Hey everyone, I had my band put in 2 weeks ago today. I don't have as much restriction as I thiught I would. I can eat pretty much whatever I want in small amounts. Is this normal? Will it change after I get my first fill?

You must be a quick healer! Restriction is different for everyone. But don't ever give up hope, because one day you won't have any, then the next day it will sneak up on you.

However, the first weeks after surgery are for healing and not for losing weight (although a lot of people do.) This whole topic was recently discussed in length. I'll do a search and see if I can find the link for you.

Hi 4jobe! Glad to meet you!

Ive only been banded for a month and I had the SAME concerns. I woke up from surgery starving!!! Later I found out (through this board) that this is VERY normal. We have all agreed that this shouldve been told to us pre-surgery (that we may be hungry before first fill).

And what dissapointment I had when I only lost 12 lbs the first month... BUT... Ive gone down 2 clothes sizes!!! Everyone is different.

And yes, after you get that first fill, you should notice some restriction. There are some here that have been banded for 3 months and feel enough restriciton and continued weight loss to not have the first fill (not like me).... like I said, everyone is different. I hope I answered your question and didnt just babble!

Good luck and WELCOME!!!

And what dissapointment I had when I only lost 12 lbs the first month...

The AVERAGE projected/expected weightloss with the band is 1-2 pounds a week - that's 4-8 pounds A MONTH. So 12 pounds is FOUR POUNDS MORE than the expected average.

This is not the bypass! Weightloss is usually slower and more reasonable.

Yes, some people lose more much faster, but they are usually working very hard at it with diet and exercise.

Whatever you can KEEP doing forever will keep your lost weight off. However, if you diet and exercise your butt off with the intention of it being short time (like all the times before) you will start gaining weight back when you revert to your "normal" way of life.

The band helps you eat less without feeling hungry. Making healthy choices as to what we eat and how we exercise is completely up to us - but the changes we make need to be PERMANENT, or our weightloss will NOT be...

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
