4 months out and falling off wagon

I'm struggling. I've been eating things I shouldn't and until recently, couldn't. bread used to be tough for me, but in past 2 weeks its fine (which is NOT a good thing). I've given in to too many Snacks that aren't healthy. I'm exercising a lot more lately so I've been hungrier, but I need to reel in these bad habits. I'm about 60 lbs down, but things have definitely slowed down--probably due to my poor food choices. Help, encouragement, tips or even gentle reprimands welcome.

Get a personal trainer who is willing to kick your ass to make you do right. I'm saying this in my most compassionate voice - I'm not trying to be rude or mean. If you want to get the weight off you need to make the right choices and put in the work. Of course, I can say that because I'm pre-op. I may face the same struggle. Just do the right thing for yourself!!!!! The REAL right thing!!!

If you know you shouldnt be eating something but you still eat it? You are doing it to yourself. If you cant help from not eating junk food and things you shouldnt what are people on the internet going to do? Say its ok when its not?

classic case of self-sabotage. Why isn't important. Do you find yourself constantly thinking about eating? Justifying and rationalizing why you should be allowed to eat certain things? Just some stuff to think about. I would suggest looking into a bariatric support group, a bariatric psychologist, or your local OA faction. You know what you have to do.

You can't take back what you've already done, so the only way to go is forward, recommit to making right choices and if you have junk in the house you should not eat, get rid of it. You can do this!

I guess I don't understand "falling off the wagon"... your sleeve is designed to restrict what you eat, meaning that whatever you eat you will eat less of. Just eat till your sleeve tells you that you're full and you're going to lose weight. I've seen plenty of people who just listen to their sleeves and eat what they want and lose plenty of weight. Obviously this is going to be an unpopular answer but everyone is different.

This is a life long struggle and you will highs and lows with the foods that you are eating. I just finished one of those lows but here's the deal..........YOU CAN'T EAT THE TRIGGER FOODS EVER! I am not yelling that at you but nicely emphasizing that to you. :) You have to constantly look at new recipes and change up your foods. The mundane day in and day out same old foods will just bring you way down. This is a struggle that I am trying very hard to change. This new life requires really does require a lifestyle change and it does take making yourself do it to succeed. If you have a Trader Joe's or Whole Foods around you I would suggest that you check them out. They have all kinds of foods that fit into our diet and are fun to experiment with. Treat yourself to something special that is just for you and not for the rest of the family. Today for lunch I made a caprese salad, cheese cubes W/olives and a fruit medley of pineapple, strawberries, and blueberries. That sounds like a ton of food but it was actually very small portions but it looked and tasted awesome and no bad carbs! Carbs are addictive and kill your weight loss. If you aren't getting exercise then try taking a walk or a bike ride this will lift your spirits! I am so glad that you reached out for our help that alone means you are trying! Just read your previous post and I truly understand where you are right now. It's tough and it sucks really sucks! You were correct to reach out and I hope what I said you don't take the wrong way. It was heartfelt and sincere. Hang in there! :)

Hang in there! I am about the same amount of time as you and completely understand. As time goes it gets harder. Just try to reprogram yourself again and recommit. If you are exercising a lot it makes sense you would be hungrier. This far out it is hard for me to do shakes so really just planning out what to eat for the next day helps. Good luck, hang in there and sounds like you will be fine. I find sometimes I have a few hard days and then a few easier ones.

I'm sorry you're struggling. I'm only a few days out but have found that my cravings and hunger are still there. While I'm not planning on succumbing to the demons that are haunting me I can see how easy it would/will be and that scares me. Does your surgeon's office offer after care therapy or is there a support group you can attend? I can say what's done is done and now you get up dust yourself off and get back on the wagon. Have you considered joining the 5:2 group. I hear they're having success.

I'd urge you to go back to basics-maybe do a 5 day pouch test? I'm told thats a good way to beat back the carb monster.

Maybe make a pro con list about foods that conflict you- like bread- pro-tastes amazing con-doesn't help me reach my goals

Sorry youre having trouble & youre right that person who said stop eating s$$$ is an "lint licker"

I am still restricted in portion size but I can eat more often and just have not been making the best choices like I used to. And I'm just hungrier this week and its kinda freaking me out. Thanks for your input. I think I just need to avoid the slider/trigger foods which have started to sneak in and cause cravings.

Also, I might just be overreacting. I haven't gained any weight and I've only noticed this in past few weeks. Just wanna get it in check and keep on losing.

      Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

      Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
