Chinese food

Recommended Posts

So just because I'm 6 days post op and bored to tears I've been looking anything and everything up on the iPad......I was just looking up nutritional value for Chinese food (past fav) and it seems to be very high in Protein and if you order right not too bad with fat and calories......was wondering if someday I can eat Chinese again or is it a bad food? And how does it sit with the sleeve?

I am 6 weeks post op. I have had no problem with any foods.Knock on wood but I am very careful to always eat 3 the ounces and not over eat. I will say that rice is a no no. So if I was to eat out at Chinese I would have meat and a veggie. Also maybe sauce on side due to the sugar content in the sauce. Eating out is really not as hard as I thought. :)

Three months post op, can't eat in large quantities like I used too, but small ammounts, eating slow, and limiting the rice, it's just fine (so far).

I had Chinese at my daughters a few weeks ago....beef noodles....it was excellent and I had no trouble eating it that day....the next day I threw it up and could not figure why....So I decided to try again 2 nights later...Oh I was so sick..Threw up for 1 hour......Did not read the red flag...dah! And paid for it dearly....

Have not eaten it since......

Sure you can eat Chinese post-op. Just make sensible choices- non-breaded/fried Protein and veggies w/ sauce. Cashew chicken, chicken w/ broccoli (my personal favorite) are some examples. I would avoid rice, noodles, egg rolls- anything deep fried. Egg drop Soup would be good too. Enjoy!!!

I eat it about once a month and have since 6 weeks post op- so 9 months. I have had no problems and love it!

I see no reason why you couldn't try it. But just try one thing at a time especially if it is a new food for you. I love beef and broccoli haven't tried it yet but I think it is about time. There are plenty of dishes that you can eat without the rice and fried foods. :)

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
