Yes, my Protein goal (as an average American female) is 45 gms per day. to paraphrase his book- the push for high protein diets is based on malabsorption that occurs with the bypass and duodenal switch. (pg 50).

Too much soy scares me. It boosts your estrogen levels, and can have negative effects on females and males. Just make sure to do your research before eating too much of it.

More about stalls from the book. check this out. i used to think this way.

"i find that if a patient thought before surgery that she could eat the same thing after surgery, but just less of it, and has not changed her food choices, then she is probably struggling with her weight loss. With that way of thinking, i can almost guarantee that they have stopped losing weight and are still overweight or have started regaining their weight."

I'm not there yet, but I love edamame. I like to keep the kernels in the freezer. I get them out a cup at a time and eat them while they're icy. Yummy

Wow! 45 grams of Protein seems pretty dang low. I shoot for at least 80 grams a day. Without my 40 grams of protein in the morning for Breakfast, I'd probably hit the 45 gram mark from food. (Greek yogurt, chicken breast, etc., all add up.)

I will admit...this is exactly what I thought when I first conceived of getting WLS. I thought I could eat taco bell every night and the sleeve would just limit my portions. Yeah, it works that way for about 3-6 months....then the honeymoon ends for alot of us. Luckily, it was research on this website, and a really good NUT that woke me up to the truth.... that I had to learn some new ways to eat. Somehow, I always knew it....but finally it really sunk in.

I also thought this, basically because it is what was said during the initial seminar I went to. We were told we wouldn't be dieting for the rest of our lives, that we could eat whatever we wanted, just much less of it. I know now this was a lie. I'm still grateful, even if I was lied to. It has been easy to eat the right things, where it wouldn't have been without the surgery. However, I'm not quite 6 months out, and know it won't always be easy. I will have to take responsibility for what I put into my body. I've been given a second chance, and will NOT blow it.

Wow....My weight has been stalled for 4 months. I started at 5'5 at 218 and have been bouncing 172 - 175 for FOUR MONTHS. I know my diet needs work. My goal is 150. I was sleeved 26 Nov 2012. I was hoping to be at my goal in 1 year. Hoping to make it to 160 by my 1 year mark. It is frustrating but I know I am at fault. I do eat cheese. I notice when I drink my 1/2 gallon of Water, the weight starts moving to 172. The days I don't drink the water, I stay at 174 and 175.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
