Why eat out?

If you only can have a few bites? How many pieces of sushi can you actually eat?

I usually always share a meal with my family. Other than that it is not usually worth it to go out.

Why eat out? Because it is a fun, social thing to do.

Sushi with rice will need to be avoided for awhile as rice is one of those nutritionally irrelevant foods that occupies WAY too much space. It is also a food that will expand more once it gets into your stomach. If you are still in the window where leaks could happen, this could potentially be dangerous.

When I went out early on, I would get Soups and ask the waitress to have them pureed. No problem. As I progressed, so did my selections. When I am out with my wife or family, we split. We still have doggy bags, too!

So ... why wouldn't you eat out?

How long after surgery will you able to have that piece of cake? Or few bites of it?

I have not yet had sushi because I have not consumed rice or bread yet so I can't really speak to how much sushi. I'm 5 1/2 months out. I know I can but not going to till at least the end of the year before any rice or bread pass my lips.

However, as far as eating out, it's a part of living normally. You will never eat as much as before but you can share, doggie bag, order a starter. It an important part of our social life with friends and family.

We don't go out much. My hubby likes my cooking. But like TapSnap writes it is 3-4 meals. Great leftovers for work.

I avoided flour things until about the 6 month mark. I could have probably had some sooner, but you really need to take advantage of the first 12 months as that is your best window to lose weight. Don't jeopardize it by feeding your taste buds only.

If you are getting the surgery and wondering when you will be able to eat cake, you may want to take a closer look at your relationship with food.

Just order something al a carte, or tell the waiter you need the senior menu, or get some Soup. If someone else is ordering an entree, depending on where you go they have multiple sides they can choose at a lesser amount than al a carte, ask to order that way.

You could just chop up some fruit and take with. I do that alot.

I eat sushi all the time. A competent chef will be able to deviate away from rice. I get rolls without rice and they wrap them in a thinly sliced cucumber sheet. or order roe on slices of cucumber wrapped in seaweed.

I've been enjoying the occasional restaurant meal since 6 weeks out and I'm now 5 months out. I can eat more than a few bites... more like nearly a cup of food and I enjoy every bite immensely.... also as much as I do enjoy cooking I also enjoy a night off once in a while and I definitely enjoy a break from the dishes/clean up.

As for sushi, I'm not a fan so I wouldn't choose to eat sushi... but I do LOVE the ginger chicken at the Vietnamese place up the street.. and I even eat a few bites of the rice noodles with my chicken. My boyfriend and I share an entree. The waiter happily brings me an extra plate and I portion off around 2/3 cup of chicken and a few tablespoons of rice noodles and we enjoy our meal and evening out.

I eat out two or three times a week - I am four months out - and I do it because it is an important part of my life. It's the social aspect of doing it that matters to me nowadays, spending time with friends and family and having fun.

In the past, it was all about the food. I still enjoy the little I eat but I always get my own plate - I can't do the eating off other people's plate thing, lol. I make better choices since my sleeve, I don't see a meal out as a reward any more or an excuse just to eat and eat until I am stuffed.

OP, please don't give up on going out just because of the amount you can eat. It is still enjoyable just different!

I love for my hubby to take me n the kids out to eat. I never order a plate. I always eat from his and he loves it. But when me n him go out alone he lets me order my own. He like for me to feel good. I take it home and it last for like about 3 more days. I enjoy the time we spend as a family even though there is always food involved. I make my own choices on what to eat and what not to eat.

I love sushi but haven't eaten it because of the rice. Can most restaurants makes sushi without rice?

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
