Running with a pannus.... Ugh.

Recommended Posts

Ok so yeah I'm loving the way I look with clothes on and I'm expertly skilled at hiding the fact that I have a pannus but I need to know the nitty gritty here folks!!

Mine is deflated but still pretty significant and I need to know what compression garments work best for keeping it in place while running. I'm in training for my first 5k abs until now I've been working on the elliptical which is a lot smoother than hitting the pavement. I'm getting ready for the transition and as you all know that sugar HURTS when you start bouncing around like a little teenager at a punk show.

Any help? Advice? Tips? I know I'm not the only one. Ollie ollie oxenfreeeeeee

The baratric leader at the hospital my surgery was at told me that they basically are all the same.

Medical compressions are very expensive, she even mentioned Spanx. I'm just going to try spanx when i heal up.

Good luck!

I'm going to follow this one as I was going to post the same question. I've used Spanx etc and hate the way they roll down and ride up etc. I've lost 50 pounds but I can't go to lower size pants because this thing hangs and needs covered up. I'm like a 1x in tops at the shoulders but need that 3x to cover it up.

I use squeem garments. They are really good (and quite fitting) I have not experienced roll ups/downs since I started wearing them. They are fabric on one side and rubber on the other.

Also, their sizes are great (they had my size even at 375 lbs.). If you do buy...try ebay or Amazon...avoid their website at all cost or you'll pay like twice.

I especially love their vest. I liked that I could wear a reg or sports bra (of my choice) and still wear the garment.

For men, compression clothing works great and can be found at retail outfits like sports authority. They come in a wide range of sizes from small to 2x. Buy in your size. I wear large for shirt and medium for shorts. The clothing helps to hold things like pannis in along with other distracting anatomical parts from lower body to shoulders (guys you know what I am talking about). I use both compression shirt and compression garments during cross fit and it helps you feel lighter with better elasticity if that makes sense. They are a little pricy, but worth it. It makes everything from running to pull ups easier, even if you do not have much lose skin (my case). Be sure to wear regular briefs over compression shorts because sweat will leak through quite easily. I wear an active wear shirt over the compression shirt and athletic shorts over compression briefs. They even help with your posture for when form really counts during a workout.

I found an awesome one from Bali. Unfortunately i bought 5 in size large, 2 in med. now the mediums are too big and they are not holding things in the way I would like. Wish I could find a small, but they are a discontinued item.

Ok...so for a real panni, something like this works great.

http://www.makemeheal.com/mmh/product.do?id=93735

I've run many miles in it with no issues. It's basically like compression underwear but it comes up over the panni. It does not roll down and it keeps things where they should be. Check out the site as they have many different ones to suit anyone's taste, but this one works best for me.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
