Hello from Kentucky!

Recommended Posts

I am new to this website and just wanted to introduce myself. I am 32 years old. My highest recorded weight was 302lbs. I have been over 250 for 10 years. I was always heavy, but learned to deal with it. I have a lot of self confidence and never let my weight stop me from doing anything, but the last two years have changed that part about me drastically.

I had my son in Janurry of '12. 11 weeks later I had a nearly fatal car accident. I crushed both wrist, fractured my femur, broke my hip socket. Fractured a vertebra, nine cracked ribs, and a whole lot of bruises. After three surgeries, some plates and screws, and a blood transfusion. I was alive. I was non weight bearing on all three broken extremities for three months. I begin to try and walk on June 20th and left rehab using a cane three weeks later. A month later I started nursing school.

As you can tell I am one determined person. The only thing that has ever beat me, is food! I decided to have the surgery for two reasons. The first is my son. I am a single mom.my son depends on me for everything. I have to set examples for him. I do not want him to have issue with food like I do. I want to be the mom that runs the field with him, not the one that sits in her nice comfy chair on the sidelines. I want to be as involved as I possibly can in his life. The second reason is joint pain. Since my right hip has been pieced back together with plates and screws, I am sure you can imagine I have a bit of joint pain and stiffness. My doc told me I would have to have a hip replacement in about 10 years but, if I did not lose weight it would be more like 5.

So here I am! I had my surgery 07/25/2013. I am 17 days post-op. Everyday is a struggle right now. Protein is a devil and i am still strugling to fine one that i like. Going to start adding exercise in next week. School starts back in one week and my plate is always full!

I want to thank you all in advance for sharing information with me! This journey is going to be a long one, and I am glad I can find support from those who have been in my shoes!

Hello! I am living in Kentucky too! I love your determination. It will get you very far in this journey. I just had my surgery on Monday so I'm 6 days post op. We should exchange emails or something. I can never have enough sleeve buddies. Where in Kentucky do you live? I'm in Louisville!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
