Faint/Dizzy on liquid diet?

Recommended Posts

My surgery is next Tuesday, I started my liquid diet this past Tuesday. On Wednesday, while walking around Walmart, I suddenly felt VERY faint -- I thought I was going to pass out right on the floor - my heart was racing too. My friend was with me and we sat on a bench. I drank a Protein Shake off the shelf, a bottle of Water and 1/2 a gatorade and it took me an hour before I felt good enough to walk to the car.

Yesterday I felt fine, then today I had a shake for Breakfast and started feeling faint as soon as I got to work. I drank another shake, some gatorade and OJ (per my docs office) before I was able to have my vitals tested: BP was elevated 170/74, but came down as I was laying there, and Blood sugar was 147 ( I am not diabetic, but I just drank ALL that). Still feeling faint.

Did anyone else have this problem?? My docs off cant image what it is since my vitals are "fine".

Im worried about after the surgery... if Im not getting enough - am I gonna pass out. I dont have a history of anything like this.

The only time I experienced something like this post surgery was because I was not getting in enough liquids and became dehydrated. That does not seem to be the case with you. My only other thought would be that your body is going through a huge change in sugar intake and needs to get used to it. I dont know what normal sugar levels should be, but you did have an OJ just before the tests. Perhaps you are dropping too low too fast?

I wish I could tell you something helpful. I hope that you get better and they find the cause. HUGS!

I was thinking sugar/carb detox. Also check the ingredients, maybe you have some sort of issue with one of the ingredients. Are these all the same shakes?

Are the liquids you are having normally, the shakes, et cetera, sugar free? I know the stuff you are having when you feel this way have sugar, but am wondering about the other stuff prior to these episodes?

Yes, I am having the same problem. I passed out yesterday trying to stand up. Thankfully I landed on the couch. I checked with my daughter, an RN; she says it is hypoglycemia. She brought a glucose monitor for the next time it happens. Your blood glucose must stay above 70. What she did yesterday is cook me some yellow squash. That worked for around 20 minutes. After that, I just went to bed for the day. I have a call into the Bariatric Clinic; they told me to go to the ER. I didn't do that because it costs me $350 each time. I feel certain it is hypoglycemia since it goes away after I take in a few carbs.

Yeah, this stuff sucks. But I WILL follow doctor’s orders no matter if I have to stay in bed. I am going to get this weight off. I’ve lost ten pounds in 5 days.

I’m on day 16 post-op and I still feel dizzy and nauseated. I did a search and found these comments. I’m glad to see it’s not abnormal. I hadn’t thought about blood sugar levels dropping. I’ll have to check my blood when I get home.

I have been monitoring my Protein, calorie, and Water intake and that’s all good.

My big question is: when does it end?? I have to return to work on Monday! It’s a lot of sitting but I also make home visits. AND it just doesn’t feel good!

Yes I have had some issues. Second week f pre liquid I had been working got dizzy a few time went in and almost went down. Second time was 4 days after surgery went to see my Dr. And told him I had bad tome with bloating night before. He told me to cut back on fluids a little went home went to house and fell face first into recliner and onto floor. Not hurt but did like Dr. Said and that day made sure to time 10 min. Between drinks! Next day felt mush better spreading things out 1 oz at a time over most entire day.

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
