Eating Ramen noodles raw?

Recommended Posts

Uncooked ??? Are you kidding me? Is it the crunchiness you're craving? I just can't even imagine. I'm only 5 days out, but I don't care if I ever eat anything again... I know, that's going to pass, but my instructions are clear. Protein and Produce.

I don't get why u r being so sarcastic... I was as motivated as u 5 days out but now i just feel lost

Maybe look at it this way, while I can't even imagine how nasty that must taste, (in my opinion) for whatever reason you are wanting to eat those things. Imagine this, you put boiling Water on your raw Ramen noodles and what happens? As they absorb Water they expand. They will do exactly the same thing in your newly sleeved tummy. No good can come from that. All the expansion leaves little to no room for the nutrition that you need so much. Not only that, but with no nutritional value, you will be hungry very soon and will do the same thing over again.

Please step back and look at all you have gone through to get your sleeve. Someone paid for this wonderful opportunity. Do you really want to throw it away for a 10 cent package of nutritionally void crap?

Just think about it, it's all I'm asking.

Y'all, let's not beat up on our new friend here. Let's give guidance instead.

I'll admit to being surprised the first time I heard about someone eating uncooked ramen noodles until I saw a chef do it on a show - he even poured the spice packet powder on them. :o

I understand your feeling lost. Sometimes trying to figure out what you want to eat can drive a person crazy. You have to get inventive sometimes to keep food interesting. This requires looking at recipes etc. and unless you are into that type of thing it can drive a person crazy and feeling lost or unmotivated can be a definite outcome. Have you gone to www.theworldaccordingtoeggface.com or www.skinnytaste.com both of those can give you some ideas. I hope this helps!!

Is there any way you could make your font smaller. I feel like I've been assaulted by Hello Kitty. :o

No respectable surgeon would tell you to chew and spit!!! That leads to eating disorders. My surgeon sends any pt that mentions this to counseling. It is such an unhealthy behavior please do not suggest this to a young impressionable person who is already having difficulties dealing....

Yep!!!

Not good, not good at all.... Please people don't do it, and please stop suggesting for other people to do it.

First, this behavior is the first steps of bulemia and getting into the habit of chewing food and spitting it out can lead to a very serious eating disorder. After WLS we are already dealing with changing the way we relate to food, so we want to instill good habits all along the way and avoid the bad ones as much as possible.

Second, there's a biological reason not to do this too. When you smell food and when it enters your mouth and you begin to chew, the body goes into Prep Mode to receive food. Your salivary glands produce saliva, your pancreas produces insulin, your liver produces gastric acid and your brain begins to calculate how much nutrition you're about to receive from the food you eat so it can keep track of it's daily needs/calories --- the body is a well tuned machine and it knows how to deal with food when it knows it's coming. But then you spit out the food. Your body still has excess saliva, insulin, gastric acid and it can't figure out why it didn't get the nutrition it thought it was going to get so the brain accountants go nuts.

Excess insulin in your body causes your appetite to increase so you'll eat more food to soak up all that extra hormone. Excess gastric acid in the stomach -- now released at the Y of your common channel -- can cause indigestion or heartburn or ulcers. And those brain accountants are now doing some creative math to recalculate the nutritional value of food because it thought it was going to get a certain number of calories, but none came, so next time you try to eat that same food the brain thinks you need twice as much to get the same nutrition as it thought it should have gotten last time.

So not only is the whole "chew and spit" habit a training ground for bulemia, it's also a way to tease your body into thinking it's getting food when it really isn't. Bulemia is a very serious illness and not something you want to play around with.

From the unknown sleever.

It is very easy to get lost and start to feel the need to eat things that may not be very good for you. As your body is adjusting to the changes it is going through your emotions will run rampant. The biggest concern with eating any type of raw noodle would be that when it gets in your stomach and mixes with the fluids in there it will expand, this is bad because when you are eating it you won't feel full right away and may eat to much, then when it expands at the early stage you are in it could reopen your sutures causing a leak. After a couple more months you will be able to eat them if you want to, because once your sutures are healed it would just cause discomfort but not cause damage if you ate to much. At this point you should try to find better choices of Snacks. Good Luck.

You know everyone has different tastes in foods they like, sometimes it is easy to cue in on your personal opinion of someone else's snack choice and miss the real question they are asking. I believe everyone on this forum does try to be helpful but sometimes we all need to focus a little better on the question at hand.

Do you have a diet plan? That has detailed lists of what you can and can't have? If you do not I can email you several. All of them say do not eat these kinds of foods.

This is a very generous offer, rmma1000, I very highly suggest you accept it and use it to help yourself.

(EDIT: I swear my grammar is getting worse as I get older!)

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
