Branson vacation at week 6

Recommended Posts

I am going on a three day girls trip in September and I should be in the 6-7 week po range. What foods do you suggest I take? I know I'll be in the soft foods stage and I will have a mini fridge in the hotel.

My concern is that we won't always be in the hotel, we will be seeing shows and museums so I need to have stuff I can carry along with me.

Thanks for any ideas that you have!

Hi! I too take a yearly girls trip to Branson (we go in Nov) I haven't had my surgery yet,(it will prob b in Sept or Oct.) I too was wondering what to do food wise if I'm up to going this year.

String cheese is a good stand by as well as the little cups of Peanut Butter for kids lunches (is your allowed peanut butter) these are good in a pinch. I was also allowed Protein bars after 4 weeks so that would be an option as well. You will find there are lots of options out there for easy on the go just figuring out what fits into your plan and your lifestyle :)

BTW I love Branson! Used to live in NW/central Arkansas :)

I just went to an amusement park over the weekend that was "no outside food allowed" and I was able to bring in food in a cooler. I just showed them a letter from my dr and they were fine with it. You could get a small cooler and put ice packs in it and bring food with you when you are out of the hotel. I brought greek yogurt, string cheese, sliced turkey, and sugar free powdered drink mixes to mix with my Water. For the hotel you could bring packs of tuna, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, cheese. Don't forget your Protein Shakes.< /p>

I was thinking along the lines of string cheese and yogurt for the hotel. Do you think Protein rtd shakes would be good to cart around with me all day?

I always carry some powdered Protein Drinks with me when I am on the go - I can just buy a bottle of Water somewhere and mix it up. I also keep a cooler with me with cheese sticks, greek yogurt, and cottage cheese (you can buy the individual serving containers). My latest discovery that has been a HUGE help (because it does not need any refrigeration) is Crunch-a-Mame - freeze-dried edamame in individual serving packs. I try to keep them in my car and my purse at all times for emergencies. Since you will still be in a soft food stage, you will need to check with your doc to see if s/he approves of them at that stage. But my doc was fine with me eating these at 6 weeks out. They come in different flavors - tasty, convenient, low in calories, high in Protein. You can buy them on Amazon. My local Whole Foods and SaveMart both carry them as well. My favorites are the salt and pepper, and the onion and chive varieties.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
