Sugar Substitute?

Recommended Posts

I am not a fan of sweet & low or anything like that. Is splenda a good substitute for regular sugar? I would also use it when cooking & baking. If not splenda what is a good substitute?

They all have different aftertastes and after surgery may not appeal to you even if they did before. The types I know are sweet n low, equal, splenda and stevia. I find I can not enjoy the taste post op in most things now, mostly the drink powders. I know if products listed as Sugar Alcohols, it is a diet substitute...ex. is xyletol. I was told all of these products are fine to use by nutritionist. So, if you find one that is agreeable to you that will be an advantage.

Try KAL pure stevia extract. Make sure you shake the bottle. It has a great taste and it is all natural and it will not make your blood sugar go up either. They also have different flavors of the extract.

Artificial sugar substitutes are not very healthy for you. I would stick with stevia, xylitol, honey or the like. Natural over artificial.. Always

Xylitol is amazing. Stevia has a funky aftertaste to me

Someone should mention agave.

Yes I would prefer natural. I'll just have to research...in & out of the kitchen!

I have been using the liquid form, but they also make it in crystal form.

You have to find the right kind, the Kal Stevia does not have an aftertaste.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
