I had my surgery on 6/18, I've lost 1 pound a day. Total as of today that I am two weeks post op 14lb. It may not seem much but I'm happy with slow weight loss. I am hypothyroid ( hashi mottos). It's hard for me to lose any weight so this is the main reason I got the surgery. It's really hard for me to avoid solids. I drink 8 oz of drinkable kefir yogurt each morning and drink 4oz Protein Shake. However I'll munch on whole grain crackers about 6 of them. Yesterday I ate little bit of rice. I want real food, my doc has me on the purée stage and I don't like it one bit. I have no will power :( How can I continue without cheating?

The thing that made it easier for me was Cream of Mushroom Soup (I didn't add Water like the label says to). It was thick enough that it felt like I was eating solid food.

Boiled eggs worked too for me.

And, I have to agree with makemyownluck, a pound a day is not slow.

Really? I hear about ppl losing so much. I hope this continues but losing anything ill be happy. It's hard for me to stay away from solids. I want real food

You have to be careful with the crackers and rice. Those types of foods swell once you have eaten them. You don't want to put pressure on your tummy incision and cause a leak. That was the mental note that has helped keep me in check. Good luck!

If you are cheating, then you are not trying your best. I am sure that puréed food gets tiring after a while. I am still on liquids, and you bet I want some real food, and I want it now. My husband is cooking a frozen pizza as I type, and I am so jealous! I want that pizza. But I am not going to have it because it is not worth the risk of injuring my sleeve.

crackers really are a slider food.. you dont seem to get full with them.. but yet they do swell.. you will hurt your tummy eating solids before your tummy is ready for them.. follow your doc and he will steer you in the right direction.. stick to your Protein Shakes and Protein foods in the puree stage.. and rice is very hard on the tummy too.. I didnt get that food until I was like 4mo out. and even now.. I cant do lettuce.. and Pasta is hard on the stomach... I dont eat that either.. too much for me. I eat about a cup of food a meal..and some good snacks.. but on the puree stage I sure didnt feel like eating much.. be careful those first few months.. takes awhile to heal all the way.. you can do this.. the doctor has given you a great tool.. and this is your do over in life.. take care and best of luck to you :)

Totally agree... Not to mention food everywhere... On tv, radio, banners etc.

You have to eat 3500 calories over you metabolic needs to gain a pound. Conversely, you have eat 3500 calories less than your metabolic needs to lose a pound. In the first two weeks, everything you are losing is not fat weight. You are losing a lot of Fluid. Some of it is the fluid they pumped into you at the hospital. I lost 18 pounds the first two weeks. Don't expect that to continue. Don't be disappointed or think that something must be wrong with you. You just cannot sustain that kind of loss. Nor would you want to. It would kill you. I fear for you if you think a pound a day is slow weight loss. Please visit with your surgeon and have him or her explain what your expectations should be going forward. And be careful what you eat. Your tummy is a raw wound right now. Treat it tenderly.

Sure will, thank you! And I personally prefer slow weight loss. I won't be concerned if it slows down. I got what it takes to work at it however I prefer eating solid food

You say you'd prefer slow weight loss. I said that too! But my first few weeks out, I was shedding 1-2 lbs every day and it was so thrilling!! I was like "YES! THIS IS REALLY HAPPENING!"

But then - it stopped. Only 25 lbs down and it stopped going down at 3 1/2 wks post op. Then it went UP by 5lbs over the course of a week! But I was doing everything right - diet wise, exercise wise, Water wise, Protein wise... I think that 5 lbs I gained was fluids as I was more hydrated (since it's nearly impossible to stay completely hydrated in the beginning weeks). But I stalled on weight loss for 3 1/2 weeks and it was REALLY frustrating.

So I agree that you should reevaluate your expectations, but I also suggest preparing for the first stall - cuz like I said, I was in the "I prefer slow weight loss" camp also, but that stall was a tough pill to swallow!!

I wish you luck, if you stick with the plan, it WILL work and continue to be a tool to get you to your goals! :)

      Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
