I guess my doc is more strict than most.. my doc said no carbonation EVER. But I guess everyones doc is different.. I stay away from it and I dont drink anyway.. so I guess Im good to go there.. I started my Vitamins 2 weeks before surgery to have them onboard.. I was off work for 17 days and went back with restrictions.. Im 6mo out now..and feel normal again.. as if nothing had happened... well other than the 98lb wt loss LOL. Im a new me and you will be too.. best of luck to you.. always the best advice.. ask your doc or nut what is best for you. :)

Perhaps y'all should read this book. The author is the guy who created VST. Carbonation CAN lead to stretching!

This book, while very good, expresses one set of opinions. There is another school of thought by well respected professionals that carbonation in moderate amounts is unlikely to cause any significant stretching of a sleeve, as the stretchy part of the stomach, the fundus, is removed during the surgery. Per this school of thought, the stretching is actually a holdover and more applicable to either gastric bypass or lap band, as the fundus is part of the pouch for both of these procedures. It can, however, result in discomfort!

And, of course if you regularly stuff your sleeve to overflowing you can eventually cause stretching of the sleeve, regardless of what it is you stuff with, including carbonated beverages. The key is always moderation.

Bottom line, follow what your doctor or dietician says first and foremost. After discussing it with my dietician, I'm allowed to introduce a glass or two of sparkling Water a few months out, after I heal. Sugary carbonated beverages are highly discouraged because of the lack of nutritional value coupled with high calorie count. I'm also allowed coffee and tea without restriction. Your instructions may be different.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
