sleeve journey...Harder, easier or different to what you expected?

Recommended Posts

I would love to hear from people that are 6 months plus post op and find out what your overall experience was and how does that compare to what you expected before surgery! :)

Just about 6 months out here and I honestly had no idea what to expect. With the wide range of peoples experiences I've heard and read about there was really no way to know how things would go for me so I went into it hoping for the best and have had a great experience so far.

I'm about 9.5 months out and having the sleeve has been great. I really had no idea what to expect as I don't know a single other person that's had the surgery. My recovery was easier then I thought it would be. I really had no idea that I would loose as much weight as I have this fast. My doctor said my cravings would be better but my gosh they have almost disappeared. The only negative is that I now get heart burn but I can deal with that!

little over 6months out..has been what I expected..the hospital where I had my surgery has bi-monthly support groupd sessions for everyone to attend. post and pre-op people, one of the surgeons and a dietician. Lots of questions asked and answered. My cravings are still there but not as bad. more a mind thing because when I have what I crave I really don't want it after all..throw more food out than I use to ..still a learning thing.I must admit I haven't followed my diet/lifestyle change as closely as I should have. So my weightloss is slower than some. But it is one hell of a Portion Control thing. Still learning what gives my indigestion and what is ok.

I'm seven months out. The only goal that I had from this surgery was to reduce the amount of medications that I was taking. I didn't give a rip and still don't, about the scale. I've have met the goal that I have set in that respect, and I am now working on getting my weight to a point that I have not been before. I am not the fastest loser, but I really don't care that much as a slow loser tends to be a permanent one. I still have about 35+ lbs to go and probably will make that goal within the year I set out to do. I have really worked on changing my lifestyle. I eat healthy and I eat properly. I cut out the things that got me to the fat ass stage. (Soda, alcohol, carbs etc.). I don't eat white foods (flour, rice, Pasta, etc.). I workout daily and I run almost every day. I don't miss eating anything. I still go out, I still have fun, probably more fun than before as I can be more active. I am thinking about a career change (I am a chef) and getting out of the food business. The surgery has given me the opportunity to really understand my relationship with food and eating. I really have a better idea of what my triggers are and how they can impact my eating and in turn, my life. For me, the decision to have the surgery has been one that I feel was proper. I have worked hard, and probably could have loss the weight on my on without the surgery, but in general I am glad that I did it. I think for the long term, it is a better approach.

I'm 6.5 months out and feeling amazing. Wow this totally has changed my life for the better! Its had its UP's and down's like any weight loss journey of course. But overall its the only thing that has worked for me and it has freed me of a life time of hopeless dieting. I have zero cravings and eat to live not live to eat. food does not surround my thoughts any longer and I have rediscovered myself. I have a confidence growing slowly as I realize my dream of being skinny is becoming a fast reality. I'm so happy and proud of anyone tat takes the steps of making the decision of having this wonderful surgery :-). Good luck on your journey and if u ever need any advise or have any kind of question feel free to message me or email me :-) I'd be glad to help :-)

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
