keep having feelings of regrets

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I am still in the phase of doing my insurance approval and first time posting on the forum. The 18 year thing seems unrealistic. I am 350 and 31 years old. My doctor reassured me that doing the sleeve could add another 30 years to my life as opposed to not doing anything. I'm nervous as hell about making diet changes and sticking to them. But it took 31 years to get into this mess then what's a few years to get out of it? Gotta stay positive.

http://longevity.abo...tric_bypass.htm

People who underwent gastric bypass surgery had a 40% reduction in the rate of death compared to their obese counterparts. More specifically, they had a 56% reduction in death from coronary artery disease, a 92% reduction in death from diabetes, and a 60% reduction in death from cancer.

http://www.news-medi...ndividuals.aspx

According to the resulting model, an average 42-year-old woman with a BMI of 45 would gain an estimated additional three years of life expectancy as a result of undergoing bariatric surgery; a 44-year-old man with the same BMI would gain an estimated 2.6 additional years.

TES, you are officially the snopes.com of this thread. Thank you for fact-finding!

Toy27, sometimes, you have to listen to what YOUR body is telling you. Doctors recommend all sorts of things to keep their patients healthy, but sometimes, those can be the wrong things.

For example, for a while, I was severely anemic. Went to my doctor, she did lab work, told me I had Rocky Mtn Spotted Tick Fever and that I needed to take Iron. I told her I didn't have RMSTF despite what the lab results said (false positives happen), she wanted me on antibiotics anyway (and the iron). So I spent 3 weeks throwing up from the antibiotics and the iron...I KNEW that would happen...I'm not a good pill taker and Iron has always made my stomach hurt. So add in the antibiotics and it just got really bad. I called her office, said "No more" and was a happy camper. ;) No symptoms of RMSTF, eventually had an ablation to deal with the anemia (very heavy menstrual periods and had nothing to do with lack of iron).

In other works, I knew what *I* needed more than the doctor did.

My sleeve doctor said no Vitamins for 3 months. That since we DO digest/absorb what we eat (our small intestines are still intact), Vitamins weren't really necessary. So why do so many doctors prescribe them? Just to be on the safe side.

Remember, too, that vitamins are usually artificial or processed "vitamins" with fillers, colors, etc. If you're having trouble taking them, maybe *don't* take them? If they're making it more difficult for you to eat real food, then ditch the vitamins and focus on eating healthily.

There are other ways to compromise, too, in order to be mentally healthy. For example, I hate tracking everything I eat. It puts too much of my focus on food and weight...and I'm happier if I just go about my daily routine. And being happier usually means eating less (because I'm not turning to food for stress relief/comfort). So just make it simple guidelines...protein FIRST, then your good carbs next, then, IF you're still hungry, a small amount of "bad" carbs (when you can have them) such as dessert and bread.< /p>

All that to say...don't feel boxed in by what your doctor is telling you to do. If it's making you miserable, get a 2nd opinion, discuss it with your doctor or NUT (you might be surprised at how flexible they are), etc.

Gosh! I am getting the sleeve to add years to my life' date=' not cut them down :(

ALSO< Girls, how did you get to get the B12 shot? That is so good for you? Do you have to pay cash for it? How much is it? Sorry for so many questions but I haven't even had the sleeve yet and know I need these shots. But, insurance won't cover them anymore.[/quote']

My insurance pay 4 the shots I do them myself once a month

I was sleeved April 3 this year & keep having these feelings what did I do 2 myself ' date='y didn't I try harder & needing a nap everyday with low energy makes it worst plus count this do that my doc & nut made it seem so easy its not its very hard & a lot of work please keep me & my FAM in our prayers I know I did this 4 a good reason it just don't feel like it I'm tired of taking all these Vitamins giving myself B12 shots &feeling lonely everything change after this my friends, sex drive ,my attitude & most of all my body I keep having break outs & no 1 knows y[/quote']

I really would look into depression- it covers everything you mentioned, feeling run down, lonely, insomnia, low sex drive, and change in attitude. And if you are diagnosed with it, it doesn't mean it's permanent.

Ok so I think the OP is right (not really), I mean after you have such a weight loss you are more likely to go parachuting. So you now have a greater chance that the parachute won't open. Or you have such an increase in your sex drive you might work (enjoy ;-) ) yourself to death. No it might be you slip and fall as your climbing Mt. Everest. Then again its gonna happen as your bungee jumping.

Really would you have taken these risks before losing all the weight.

Probably not!

But heck so worth it! Live it up and BS to the 18 years off your life!

Ok it may not add to my life expectancy (and I think that is wrong) but it definitely will not decrease my life expectancy. I have not seen 18 years anywhere.

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
