Recommended Posts

I started my pre ip diet at 226 my highest weight was 234...I had my surgery on 11/07/12 today I am 148 and I have a bit of loose skin but it isn't terrible I will post pics...I am also 33yrs old I am short though only 5'2.5 :) The swimsuit photos are from about 1.5 month ago and I was about 5lbs heavier than my 8 month photo which is where I am now .Swimsuit not cutest pics but included pics so you could see skin etc...

Wow! You look great! I have just about as much to lose as you did. Same starting weight and I'm on a 5'3.5 frame - so almost identical. I pray mine turns out as well as yours. I'm still in the pre-op phase, so I have a while to go. But congrats to you for all of your success! I have the same question as the last poster. Did you work out alot? How did you keep the loose skin at bay?

Thanks!I didn't do anything special for skin I still do have some especially in the stomach between the weight I was carrying and having 2-9lb babies and 3 c-sections my stomach had been through a lot I have a lot of lower pouch skin right above my section scars.I also have some on my inner thighs and my inner arms(mini batwings). I think age and skin elasticity is why mine isn't as bad as it could be:) I also can conceal a bit of it ...

I am 5'0 and 190lbs' date=' I'll be 37 yrs old in 3 weeks (Aug 19)...having my surgery on my bday too!!! I hear the weight loss is slower for people with a lower BMI. My goal is 125lbs and no more BP & diabetes meds.[/quote']

Congrats and happy bday! My bday is Aug. 19th as well ill be 28...I was sleeved july 9th (happy surgeversary to me!!) And I do feel im a slow loser im 5'3 pre op I lost 10lbs... dos233 today 214 lbs I go days without the scale moving. I was stalled for 2 1/2 weks before losing 2lbs then boom stall again! I keep reading when the scale doesnt move inches are still lost I hope that is true! I feel great though im sticking to the journey and if it comes off slow at least its coming off. Also when you lose slow it gives your skin time to catch up which mean less loose skin :)

I am also a lower bmi, around 35. I am 36, 5ft 3.5in, highest known weight 218, currently bouncing around from 205-210. I have been losing and regaining the same 50lbs for the last 6yrs. I also have no problem losing weight, but maintaining the weight loss is where I can't seem to get it right. Even though I can lose weight if I work at it very hard, I have never been able to achieve a normal bmi. Now after years of gaining and losing the same 50lbs over and over it seems to be affecting my health. I now have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and heart disease. I have chosen Dr. Alvarez in Mexico for my surgery. I am going Aug 13th to my Dr. here to have bloodwork done. Then applying for my passport card and booking the surgery. I'm hoping I'll be able to pick a day within the first two weeks of Sept. Good luck to everyone!

You made a good choice with Dr. Alvarez. I posted in the Mexico forum about our experiences with him if you're interested. Very good experience.

So I'm considered a lightweight....yea....thats me LOL! At 32 BMI I'm technically lightweight. I have been at 35 BMI for the last several years or so and have actually managed to lose a bit on a low carb/high protein/mod fat/low cal/sugar free (paleo/primal) lifestyle' date=' but am as usual having a very hard time keeping it off consistantly. It keeps creeping up.

Was just wondering if there were anymore people on here with about 100lbs or less to lose, or otherwise considered lightweight comparatively. Any who've had the procedure? If you've had the procedure, how much have you been losing? What's your progress, and how're you feeling about the procedure so far?

Thought I'd make a thread for us that have less to lose than the SMB or even the MB people on here. So we can share our experiences and just chill.

BTW, thought I'd add. Everyone is welcome! All sizes! All opinions are valued here! <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />[/quote']

My BMI barely hit 40 so that's how I qualified. No Comorbities. The nurse said to me in the hospital, you barely made it huh. I could wrap myself in the gown 5x, the thing for my leg not to clot would not stay on. I'm definitely on the smaller side looking at me. People thought I weigh around 180 but everyone carries weight differently. When I told the nurse @ work, the 1st thing she asked was how was I gonna qualify. I'm 31lbs down since being sleeved on 7/22 & I don't regret it. It actually saved my life. My current goal is 199. 240 was my highest weight & I had to gain on purpose to get there.

You are so right everybody carries weight different. I went to the seminar and the lady attending looked @ me and said you don't look like you would qualify.

I got that look a lot at my surgeon's practice, though no one really said anything. The doctor who did the test where you have to swallow barium (forget the name) asked me "pre-op or post op?" I was pre-op! 5'4", 240ish, high blood pressure, joint pain, and prediabetes - invisibe comorbidities - and an hourglassy figure means that lots of people don't see how big I really am/was. I hear "you carry your weight well" a lot.

So I'm in the beginning process I know everybody's different but what can I expect?

Forticie,

Look throughout the forum. There are a lot of questions answered on this topic. Some places to look are pre-op questions. If you are interested in a certain item or words, enter them into the search box on the home page and make sure the filter is set to forums. You will then see all the forum entries that mention your word or words you searched for and they are highlighted. If you are looking around for insurance there is a forum dedicated to insurance questions. However, items can also be found in other forums so I usually do not limit my search to a particular forum.

I hope this helps and good luck on your journey.

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

      3. NickelChip

I think it's important to remember that the weight charts and BMI ranges were developed a very long time ago and only intended to be applied to people who have never been overweight or obese. Those numbers aren't for us. When you are larger, especially for a long time, your body develops extra bone to support the weight. Your organs get a little bigger to handle the extra mass. Your entire infrastructure increases so you can support and function with the extra weight. That doesn't all go away just because you burn off the excess fat. If you still had a pair of jeans from your skinniest point in life and then lost weight to get to the exact number on the scale you were when those jeans fit you, chances are they would be a little baggy now because you would actually be thinner than you were, even though the scale and the BMI chart disagree. When in doubt, listen to the jeans, not the scale!

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
