I had my surgery last Thursday and didn't BM til Monday. Didn't have gas coming out that way until Monday, either (but I burped plenty!) My MD put me on Colace (stool softener) to make sure it wasn't difficult to pass. If you're not on anything, I recommend getting some milk of magnesia or other stool softener to make sure it doesn't get too backed up in there.

Just remember that narcotics will bind you up so ... Don't stay on them unless really necessary

The Miralax works pretty well.

5 days for me. I'm almost 5 weeks out now and still not regular. I'm beginning to think that Miralax dissolved in 100% apple juice is going to be the only way I get any relief for a while.

The Miralax works pretty well.

I had this problem early on but my surgeon recommended against miralax and suggested Metamucil bc it is more natural. I was not sold on this bc I just kept thinking of the gross orange Metamucil but I bought the clear kind and it can be mixed into anything and is flavorless I add it to my morning coffee and it works like it should :)

I use the Psyllium Fiber Metamucil - does anyone see any issue using that post-surgery?

Not that I know of... My doctor is a military doctor and he himself says he uses Metamucil on deployments daily over miralax because Metamucil is a fiber supplement while Miralax is a chemical (polyethylene glycol) which causes Water to be drawn into your stool and can cause dehydration so it is not meant to be used for long periods of time.

It took me 6 days. I tried warm pear or prune juice. Drink a glass or two of that a day and you will see some movement (but makes sure it's warm).

Another all natural fibre supplement which you can mix through foods or drink and not taste it is Benefibre.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
