Ok, it has been along time since I last posted. My revision was denied by my insurance so I never had the surgery! Still living with reflux but able to eat a little more. Still taking Prilosec in am & pm, just trying to enjoy my life! Also the reason My insurance denied the surgery was because I didn't go thru their "rules"

when I had the sleeve surgery in Mexico.. I do worry about getting Barrett's but had an EGD last year & all was good.

Hope you all are doing good!

Was it denied specifically because you had your procedure in Mexico? That doesn't seem fair! I am on prilosec, I think my concern is that I developed Barrett's in under 11 months without any history of acid reflux. They think part of it is that I had my gallbladder removed a month after my sleeve and that it led to bad bile reflux too. If you had Barrett's do you think you'd have the bypass (if your insurance wasn't an issue)? I am trying to assess whether the revision is something that I should take very seriously or if I should hold off. Because of my job I'll be back in the States for a couple of months this winter to sort out a visa issue, so I feel like I need to make a plan to prepare for having surgery then if I decide I need to.

It was denied due to I didn't go thru the required weight loss procedures that was needed for my sleeve! My doc tried to get it covered due to my reflex but still was denied. I can't complain too much because they did cover the removal of my lap band back in 2010 & I had that done in Mexico.

My doc did say if I get Barrett's they would have to cover the procedure. It has been a year since my last EGD, now I'm wondering if I should have another one done..

I'm no Dr and I don't have this issue but if it was me and the damage was this extreme after 11mths. Then I would not hesitate. Cancer doesn't discriminate it kills. Sorry to be so direct but your body is on a collision course and your Dr has given you an option to stop the problem. Your 26 and have your whole life ahead of you. Take care my thoughts are with you. Keep us posted with what you decide

I know a lot of people on this thread had procedures done last year, but if anyone's around did you have a hard time finding a surgeon who has done a sleeve to bypass revision? I live in a different place than my original surgery and it seems like a lot of the surgeons I've contacted aren't very familiar with this kind of revision.

Hi everyone...sorry I've been absent. I have had numerous complications and procedures done in the last couple of months. I'm interested to hear whether the person with GERD working overseas has had the revision from sleeve to bypass and how she is. There has been so much going on and so much has happened it would be easier to answer questions than to tell it all but for now I am on a feeding tube 20hours a day 7 days a week and my GERD and reflux are back in full force.

Hi Niki -

I just found this thread and I am so sorry that things have not gone well. I had the sleeve done July 1, 2013 and did real well until the beginning of 2015 when I started have bad gerd, pain in my stomach and major issues with bloating. After months of tests, it was discovered that my gallbladder was no longer functioning and in May 2015 my gallbladder was removed. That helped with the bloating and some of the pain, but not the gerd. Finally it was decided to do a revision to a bypass this past October. The gerd is now gone, but now I have a painful spot in my stomach about 3 inches above my belly button - like a large knot - and I am gagging and throwing up about once a week. I am waiting to have an upper GI to see if I have a blockage. I am a little nervous, but hopefully we will figure it all and I will be better soon.

I hope that things are somewhat better for you. I will keep you in my prayers.

Hi all.

I originally had my surgery in TJ, Mexico February 23,2013 starting weight was 255lbs.

I lost weight till about September 23,2013 my weight was around 184-181lbs stable.

I remained and Maintained that weight till September 2014. I lost about another 10lbs. The lowest I was around 170 or 169lbs. I know I had no restrictions eating what so ever. I had a sweet tooth and still do.

I did have minor acid reflux prior to surgery but nothing enough for me to take medication for it. As soon as I had my sleeve done I was on omprezole 40 mg once a day. Till my gastronologist recommended I have a endoscopy done.

Worst choice ever. Since I did my endoscopy February 2015 till today almost a year ago I take omprezole twice a day... Sometimes even three times. My symptoms have become worse.

Long story short I have done upper GI about two weeks ago and it is confirmed I have severe gerd.

My doctor which is here in LA.. Adviced to have a revision surgery to gastric bypass. That would cure my gerd 100%.

Mind you after the sleeve I was Vitamin b deficient and Vitamin D. My Vitamin D levels were very low now I'm at normal but still do take my dose of 50,000 units of Vitamin d once a week. My vitamin b is well.

Other then gerd that is still irritiaring me, my vitamin levels which are under control there are no other major issues. I'm extremely scared for a revision to a bypass. Even though the doctor told me the most I'll lose is another 20lbs, not to expect more weight loss. What if I don't loose or what if I loose to much. I'm scared what if I become malnourished. I already have hair loss for the past year tons of them. No idea.. What to do. I signed the surgery consents but no date yet. I should expect a date in end of February. I want to know if anyone has had a revision? I was 23 when I did my sleeve now I'm 26.

On the positive side I am wondering if I will ever be satisfied with my weight. Hoping I'll be 130????????????. I have gained weight with the holidays etc no excuse but I am 178 lbs ????. Main issue is gerd. I have one person near and close mentioning my weight it's my boyfriend. He isn't good support he has no idea about my past journey and how far I've came. I don't know but sounds like I have some issues.

Girl...there is no way, if I could go back, that I would ever choose again to do the revision. The doctor can't possibly know exactly how much weight you'll lose, everyone is different. I got down to 118 pounds myself...way TOO LOW! I've been on TPN (fed thru a central line in my chest) and thru a feeding tube for months now to gain weight back. I've been extremely malnourished and it was my life-line. I take all kinds of medicine and Vitamins and supplements just to get by. Please do all the research and try all kinds of GERD medicines before you commit to a revision. If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask. Also there is a Facebook page called Gastric Bypass Complications that might be able to answer some too.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
