I have a BMI of 35 with no comorbidities, doubt my insurance will cover the surgery so I'm exploring self pay options.

I'm interested in gastric sleeve surgery with Dr. Aceves and was wondering how the process of getting a surgery date goes.

I've been to his website and saw there are medical questionaires that can be submitted. Do you fill those out and submit them to find out if you are a candidate? Did anyone have to send over medical records from your PCP?

Hi there!

I have my surgery scheduled for June 4th with Dr. Aceves!

The process was simple. I filled out the questionaire and was contacted back by Nina, his patient coordinator. She informed me of pricing and the options available. She also told me when they were scheduling for. When I decided I wanted to proceed I was sent more pre-op questions, at which point I was cleared for surgery. To be able to confirm the date I had to pay my $500 deposit.

I didn't have to send over any medical records but I did have blood work done as well as a physical beforehand just in case (I have a very supportive GP), but they weren't requested.

Nina is great, she gets back to you really quickly and has answered every question I've had.

Hope that helps!

I did not have to send any records from my doctor here. The process is just like the response above!

Yep, just like the above posters said. I was a lightweight (199 high, 193.5 on surgery date) and was able to hit goal in less than 6 months. They didn't need any info from my doctor, I just filled out the forms online and submitted them. I did get a very thorough surgery report from Dr. A for my PCP here and x-rays of my sleeve with the leak test to give the PCP.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
