I have tried it and it was horrendous. They locked us in and the smell was nauseating. I asked a physician about it and they warned against it. That level of heat is not good for you for that long. There's actually a reason why you aren't suppose to spend a lot of time in a jot tub. Same thing in a room 120+ degrees

Haha! I'm a little slow to catch on. I was thinking that hot yoga must be some sort of erotic twist on regular yoga. i was gonna try it out. But now I see that it's yoga done in a hot room. Forget that! I'm in TX. Pretty soon it will be 120 standing in my driveway.

I'm a dork

I've tried hot yoga in the past and it is great stretching and sweating! The only disadvantage is when the room has carpeting and you're NOT in the first class of the day which means you could me smelling and touching other people's yucchy sweat. :(

Yes, definitely go to a facility that has wood floors. With a mat, it is not uncomfortable. They come by with a swifter and wipe up the sweat before the next class begins. I sweat a lot now and hoping it tones down some as I get stronger in my core. Kind of embarrassing to be dripping like a faucet. Lol.

Ive been doing hot yoga for a couple of months now and am completely addicted. Im up to about 3 classes a week and I get stronger each time. I can hold poses I couldnt hold in the first class and can hold others a lot longer. It has increased my rate of weight loss also. Im a slow loser to begin with but the hot yoga really amped it up. All the sweating releases toxins from the body and allows you to get into a deeper stretch. Its invigorating and I feel so great when Im done. There hasnt been a class that I wasnt sore from afterwards. My studio has hardwood floors and I have to have a mat towel because I sweat buckets like Fiddleman. I bring a handtowel with me and keep it within arms length the whole time.

I asked my surgeon if I could be cleared for hot yoga and he gave me a hearty "heck yes"! You could just try it one time and see if you like it. Just remeber to hydrate a lot the day you go and bring Water with you to class. I hope you go, its changed my body already.

This has great information on the benefits of bikram yoga (hot yoga). Its a short informative read. The class I do has all kinds of participants. There was a 7 month pregnant woman, a 300 pound man and a couple that are in their 70's.

Do you do up to 3 hot yoga sessions a week or a mixture of hot yoga and other yoga styles?

Fiddleman, Wednesdays I do a moderately heated Dynamic Yin class (an hour and 15 minutes), Thursday and Saturday I do the Bikram Hot Yoga for 90 minutes. I actually threw in a 4th class and went on my lunch hour yesterday. That was a Bikram Hot Yoga class but only for 45 minutes. I dont think Ill do it on lunch again, I was WIPED for the rest of the day.

The Dynamic Yin class is actually my favorite because I always feel sore in unexpected places that I dont feel sore from with Bikram. Even though is moderately heated, its just as hot to me and I still pour sweat lol.

Since I started going, Ive gone from a size XL yoga pant to a MEDIUM!! A MEDIUM DUDE! I have muscles forming too. Its insane. I look in the mirror sometimes and think I must be imagining stuff. My knees have bruises and so do my elbows but to me, that just means Im workin it!

Excellent! Thanks for sharing.

I am setting up a weekly schedule that includes Yin, Hatha, Power Vinyasa (hot yoga) and Yin/Yang (like your dynamic yin) in the evenings. It is a good balance to cross fit and other exercising. Being careful to pair cross fit ( intense) with Yin (relax). I tried to do hot yoga and cross fit on same day, one after another and I was wiped after the hot yoga. :) Saving hot yoga for on non cross fit days. I am already shaping up. Need to always remember changing your body structure is a process and it takes time.

Im so excited for you Fiddleman. My co-worker is a Cross Fit guy and he's FIT! He loves hot yoga too but got away from going. The wife was missing him lol. I have always told him that one day I want to be a Cross Fit B*tch! Those ladies are hot! But then Ive never seen an overweight yoga instructor either. Its just about doing what you enjoy and choosing to be challenged if thats what you want.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
