Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

Lap Dancer, GREAT PICTURES!!! Oh, it's so great to see what I'll be seeing when I get there!

Glad to help.

I highly recommend the Holiday Inn Select across from the surgical center. Great beds. You can get a suite for $89 and mention Dr. Kirshenbaum's name and that you are in for surgery to get that price.

I had a bad case of cotton mouth after surgery. All I wanted was Water. My husband bought me some Haul's lozenges which I sucked, did not crunch and swallow. What an answered prayer. The hotel also has small coffee machines in your room. I made a pot and mixed half ice. The warm coffee was so soothing.

I'm otherwise feeling great. Stomach is sore but I'll be ready to go back to work Monday.

Any questions give me a shout.

Hey guys.. Thanks for the awesome photos!!!!

Its funny, I also asked Dr. K how everyone did on their surgerys and when he smiled he must have already knew about LBT. I have also been promoting his name with everyone I come in contact with that is interested in the procedure. It is really hard to impress myDH but.. from the very begiinning, my hard to win over guy was comfortable and trusted Dr. K with my life.

You all are such awesome people! We will have to see if we can get together for someing.. games.. or a lunch thing... something! I feel so close to all of you!

You guys are the best!

Happy healing everyone!

Maybe we could try and plan some sort of get together this summer??

I think this summer might be on my agenda because I need my first fill. I can do Denver.

I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart. I am soooo thankful I went to Dr. Kirshenbaum. Ex: I'm having a little bleeding which I am thinking is from the surgery when they intubated me. I called Dr. Kirshenbaum's office and he called me within a half hour. He is so personable, answers all questions clearly and concisely and the facilities were so fantastic. The center at Parker is beautiful!

I have not one single regret. I'm so happy.

Through thick and thin, the lapband process has been amazing because of the wonderful people here at LBT. I agree that Dr. K's staff is wonderful and the results are wonderful too.

SunnySea -I was distraught to read about your difficulties and I wish you lived near here so you could have easy access to Dr. K's office. Best wishes, that other Dr. is a turd!

To the other bandsters from last week and this week - hey! How are you doing?

I am coming through pretty well. Walking around the block, beginning mushies today, but very slowly. Dr. K says to use a common sense attitude about everything and I have been trying to listen to my body. I had a little of the golf ball sensation by gulping to quickly, it is a great reminder, "No.. No.. No" I also have had a little of the mouth foaming thing, yucky! But none of that is more painful than being obese.

Thanks God for banding. I didn't know how to work or fight any harder my weight kept kicking me back to where I was or more. So here we are, dedicated to our health and well being. It is great to have a tool like a band on our side.

Bless you all and best wishes for everyone's good healing,

Michelle

Sunnysea--I'm sorry to hear about you, I'm glad you are doing better! Lap Dancer--great pictures, you look really happy!

Drewslou--If we plan a get together, I'm there!! Maybe we can do something around one of his support group meetings, I have always been interested in seeing what one of his meetings are like. I'm not sure when they are held.

Dynamo and Angie--I'm glad you are feeling better, up is the only way to go from here, or maybe better said... down on the scales is the way to go!!

I'm really glad I found this thread back in January and I have not once been disappointed in the care of attention I have gotten from Dr. K. Dynamo you are right when you said "Thank God for banding. .... It is great to have a tool like a band on our side."

Good luck to everyone!!

Hi Michelle! I got a great hug from Sunny and of course the photo with her is priceless.

I'm doing really good. I'm sticking to the broths and Jello and Water. Doing that religiously for two to three weeks. My surgery took a little longer. My liver was not FAT but FLAT and wiggly like it had been deflated. So he had to lift it, lift it, lift it. (smiling) But he told my husband he got "every stitch in there".

I feel so blessed.

I feel all the prayers from everyone and good wishes. This strength bound together by our common experience is like a precious metal.

Good morning, everyone. I had my one week appointment yesterday. It was really short. He took the tape off the port site and took a look at the incisions. (by the way, my guts didn't fall out :( ) Said that I wasn't allergic to the tape, but to the glue they use to stick it down. I've got benedryl and cortaid to try and clear it up. Well, my weight is down 20 lbs now. Not since the banding, but since the pre-op diet and the liquid diet. I haven't lost that much weight since I did the Atkins years ago. I think that I lost around 37 on that. (But it all found me again, plus some!) I suppose things reverse or level off when you can eat food again, huh? I have my appointment for May 11 to get my first fill. It seems things are going pretty quickly.

SunnySea, how are you feeling now that it's been a few days? Do you feel like things are where they need to be? Are you still having trouble or do you feel like you need more of a fill?

Have a great day everyone...hope everyone is getting along well!

Hi Woofay, I'm back to normal today, I will need a fill soon! I sure don't want to go thru that ever again. It's amazing that you don't realize how good you feel until you're sick like that, it was untollerable sp? for 12 hours with it getting worse and worse. I'm just physically + emotionally drained from this and the job thing, only 2 people from work have called to see how I was doing! so much for so called friends.:cry I'll be ok, probably better off in the long run, even my Doc says it's good i'm out of there. Back to the fill, I will get this band working again, just slower next time! I'm not looking forward to the ER bills but live and learn, life goes on. I'm happy to hear that everything is good with you except alittle itching! I thank God I have all of my Dr. K bandster friends to talk to.:( Sunnysea

SunnySea - So glad you are back in the "Pink." I am finding the friend thing very interesting. Some old friends are kind of pulling back, others are right in there being supportive. I think people take surgery differently, I just know how I want to be for them now. Hugs to you.

Woofay - I'm so glad your guts didn't fall out. I will be 11 days out when I see Dr. K. I kind of feel like things are still really swollen. Do you? I put ice on my incisions a couple of times a day. Hugs to you too!

To all of you Dr. K patients, a question. How much Protein are you really getting in during the first to second week after surgery? Are you able to take Vitamins yet?

Dynamo,

During the first 2 weeks of liquids, it was hard for me to get a lot of protien in. My saving grace was the hi-protien slimfast and adkins shakes that I drank 2 times a day. I also went to GNC and bought "Muscle Milk". It is sweet, and has a lot of calories, but 1-8oz container had 25 g of protien. I would mix half of it with some frozen fruit in the blender for a "snack". I also drank the RTD Isopure Fruit Drinks, but I did not like them as much. All in all, I usually got in about 50 grams of protien a day. I tried the Profect protien shots, 3-oz of liquid with 35g (I think) of protien, but they were kind of expensive. Hope this helps!

Sunnysea! Oh my goodness! I am so sorry you had to go through what you did! That's too bad Dr. Kemmerling treated you the way he did initially. How nice of him! Ugh. Even though you had this unfill problem, it's gotta make you happy you don't have him for a Dr. I go to Madison for a fill on Tuesday for the first time, so I'll let you know how it goes. I am sure there will be more band Dr's around here soon, with all it's popularity.

I'll be up your way in July for a wedding in Escanaba. Maybe we can meet up for a coffee, margarita or pasty or something! :)

I decided on a name but am reluctant to reveal it until I formally register it. There is tough competition out there for names! I will let you know in a couple of weeks though when I do it!

My pic won't be on the web page until I am a bouting skater. Working my way up the ranks as we speak. My knee injury has sidelined me a bit and now I am facing surgery on the 10th to repair the damage I have done to it. I will get there though!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
